Does any one know where you can buy that clear coat stuff that you can apply to your car/4wd paintwork to protect it from deep scratches when off road. I believe you apply it then to remove it you hit it with high pressure wash. Also has any one used it and what are their thoughts on the product ?? Only thing I have heard is it can look a bit crappy if it happens to get wet, goes a milky colour..Regards Steve M

Wax, Wax and more wax, anything else is a waste of time. Lots of thick wax will do the best job of protecting your paint.

      Re: paint protection

I'm not sure of the particular product you are referring to, however you can get clear urethane paint protection film which is computer cut for particular vehicles. If you've ever seen a semi with new Porsches or Mercs onboard, they have similar protection around the doors and wheel arches to ensure they get delivered without damage. From memory, the system is not cheap but at least provides a physical barrier to scratches. As has been mentioned, a high quality wax or paint sealant will provide some protection albeit fairly limited if you hit some of the native scrub and bushes that line 4WD tracks. A white Prado certainly has an advantage in this respect. Unfortunately these days, you don't have to take the Prado off-road to experience damage. The local shopping centre car park is about as bad as it gets. I've had people fling their door open and hit mine while I was sitting in the car, thankfully now with a lift, they mostly end up just hitting the side step

I believe the product is called Scratch Pro.

Once I get my scratches, dents and chips fixed, I'll be installing the clear film on the bottom half of the Prado as well as the bonnet. That's where most of the scratches, dents and chips currently are.
