        New Rhino Pioneer roof rack

I have the older style Platform Rack and it's great. Very low profile and is very strong. We travelled through the Flinders Ranges, Oodnadatta Tk, Red Centre and the West McDonnell Ranges in my NS Pajero last year. We had a 2nd spare wheel and tyre, a Black Wolf Turbo tent, Arb awning and a couple of jerries and it didn't miss a beat.

Having said that, I had a look at the new Pioneer rack at the 4x4 show too and if I had the money I would probably get one.

Here's the old Platform Rack on my Prado.

        Cheers, Sam.

Re: New Rhino Pioneer roof rack

I also have the 1500 x 1100 old platform rack mounted on thule aero bars.

Here it is fully loaded in the Simpson last year.

It performed very well, and I liked the fact that having no sides allowed me to get a shorter rack and hang things over the ends and the sides. The OzTent hangs over the front and back, and you will note the spare wheel hanging over the right hand side of the platform allowing for more space on the platform.

However, LFaR almost had me convinced to get a WindCheetah rack recently until I saw these new Pioneer racks, now I can't decide between them. I do like the idea of removable side rails - best of both worlds, can remove them and hang things over the sides when necessary or install them for the convenience of easier securing of loads when you want to.

So, Tenon there may be a used older-style platform rack in the for sale section soon if I do decide to get a new rack!

          Cheers, ld
