  • ARB Air Locker Compressor

I when for a play yesterday after a long time not getting out and found my Air compressor for the locker was not working.
When I returned home I ended up having to strip it down and found it had gone rusty inside. The filter was still clean but probably had got water in it from either washing the engine or water crossings.
I noted that it was a fully sealed electric motor, but lacked o-rings or grease to prevent water ingress. The body was still fairly clean but the rotor was so gummed up that it wouldn’t spin freely and must of overheated and hence writing off the compressor.

My question is what alternative is there if I want to keep costs down. This is just a simple compressor to do the air locker as I use a Bush Ranger to pump my Tires up and keep that away from any dirt.
    Cheers

    ARB Air Locker Compressor

As an option, on my previous car with lockers, Just before I picked it up the previous owner has the compressor rebuilt. Like a car engine- new piston, ring, seals etc. If you wanted to consider that also.

      Re: ARB Air Locker Compressor

After researching and buying a new compressor for tyres and altimately talking to the pro's, I'd say go buy the ARB CKMA12. It will do your lockers and your tyres as apposed the the dedicated locker unit.

I ended up buying the CKMP12 simply for portability and versitility but if I ever get lockers done I'd go to the CKMA unit.

        Re: ARB Air Locker Compressor

I've seen lockers run with a cheepo air compressor from supercheep hooked up to a old fire extinguisher (without the handle part at the top) as the tank then to the lockers. The system used the ARB pressure switch to signal the compressor to switch on/off.

work OK and the owner was saying that because the compressor was only working for a short time to fill the tank and he never used it to inflate tyres, it hadn't shit itself yet. At the time the system was 5 years old and still going strong.
Could be an option but a bit of messing around to get all the fittings and such.

IMO easiest will be to either rebuild the compressor you have, search eBay etc for a second hand one or buy a new one.
