  • water pumps

the water pump on my 07 prado has just failed a few months after the warranty expired.

I expected better than this from quite a new model. the last one went over 7 years without trouble. Is this a common fault?

    Cheers

    not a normal thing.
a couple of things could have attributed to it.
    over tightened belts,
    coolant not changed often enough,
    misalignment at assembly.

how many kms has it done?
what was the failure (which part)?

Also mixing different coolants or not flushed the system properly on changing to a differnt coolant

Mine stated to leak at 110K and was replaced under extended warrant - always serviced by Toyota.

              Re: water pumps

Had mine replaced at 185,000 Km when it started to leak.

              I don't believe its a common issue.

Obviously, as Damonat points out, there's a few other contributing factors to keep an eye on.

hey guys beware of dealers especially large toyota dealers and over servicing . my mechanic is my best mate i also have 6 other mates who are mechanics . you cannot overtighten the belt on a prado it is a spring loaded adjuster that costs $315 to replace it has an idler pully and bearing attached to it . when i got back from birdsville the front of my engine was making horror noises . i thought it might have been the pump . it was only the idler pulley bearings , had to replace 3 of them reason for this  charging into mud holes whoops . also i have had a mechanic tell my dad that this car will need a cam belt at the next service . they don't have them . they are chain driven and should be good for the life of the motor . was also told when my missus 08 corrolla was serviced by toyota that it would need its fuel system cleaned . i asked how much answer $120 i asked why a 2 year old car with less than 20000km on it , that is way overserviced would need its fuel system cleaned . i stated that the only way to clean the fuel system would be to remove the injectors and put them on a machine ,this would cost a lot more than $120 . they stated that they use a special cleaning solution, i stated that i can buy that at repco for $6 .i thanked them for treating me like a moron and trying to rip my misses a new one and that they were just unlucky that i picked up the phone . i also pointed out that her car would not be coming back to toyota .
03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . RTFM people !

you cannot overtighten the belt on a prado it is a spring loaded adjuster
Not true, that would depend on what engine your Prado has. The spring loaded tensioner is only used where a serpentine belt is fitted.

also i have had a mechanic tell my dad that this car will need a cam belt at the next service . they don't have them .
Once again depends on what engine.. V6 has a chain..Diesel has a belt.

i stated that the only way to clean the fuel system would be to remove the injectors and put them on a machine
They can also run a very strong cleaner through without removing your injectors, the fuel and return line are removed and run to a separate reservoir of the stuff and the engine is run on it for a short period of time.
