Yes it does, but I was referring to changing rim and tyre sizes, not putting on higher suspension or body lifts.

When you measure from the center of the wheel to the arch, it doesn't matter what the wheel/tyre size is or the amount of wear. It will always be the same distance.
      I was led to believe otherwise as there's a question in the VSI50 document ( http://www.andrewstoner.com.au/images/s ... 50_Doc.pdf ) that states:

I suppose you are right as the question refers to "ride height" alteration rather than "trim height".

      Thanks for pointing that out.

Re: DON’T LET THE GOVERNMENT BAN 4WDING!

An interesting aside in relation to lifts in WA.

Aparently NO engineers in Perth will do a rollover test for lifted vehicles. due to a lifted car rolling during the test.

so I am guessing it didnt pass....

With the first time the gov tried this it was the industry that voiced the concerns. a legitimate lift by a legit company is done to standards. I guess the gov listened to them, I bet they are really looking to stop backyard bush mechanics / amatuers / inepts trying to do it at home.
there is no doubt there are cars out there lowered by the previously mentiond fools with no springs at all. and the same with lifted old dungers jacked up on anything bigger than standard gear that they found out the back of the old mans shed off the john deer.

As usual its a minority from both higher and lower classes that will cause many more to be affected by this.

Hope sanity prevails before more of our freedoms are taken away by hands that never get dirty....
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

Re: DON’T LET THE GOVERNMENT BAN 4WDING!

I personally think the thread subject is a bit misleading! They aren't banning 4WDing rather restricting modifications to the height of vehicles.

Re: VSI 50 - Vehicle Lift Restrictions

I think the proposed rules are a good thing.

Lifts up to 50mm are quite common place and are usually well sorted nowadays. They can on the most part be done to almost any 4wd without further mods that potentially effect suspension and steering components in one way or another, such as adjustable panhard rods, off center bushes, caster plates etc. I'm not saying by using these components you are making your car unsafe, just the fact you are using them to get the desired handling result which sometimes means using non OEM components.

Lift over 50 and under 150 need and engineers certificate. What's the problem with that. If you want to get this type of lift then go to the trouble of doing it right and by the rules by using a recognised engineer much in the same way the OEM did when the car was first designed.

Lifts over 150mm are not allowed on public roads. So what. If you need a lift to be this big then you are using it on knarly tracks or in specialist comps, trailer your car there and back much in the same fashion as the yanks do. Drive a nice car there, have a great time wheeling and drive a nice car back. If you are lifting a car this high for a purpose then you are going to spend a fair amount to do it well. Spend the extra and get a tow car and trailer. At least then when you break the big lifted car you can still get home safely.

I don't agree that these rules put us as 4wd in the same category as "the hoon croud". I think it is people making it sound that way to entice fear and concern when it is not needed and help fire their own agenda.

Thanks, just checked my mail and I have it.

Good to see these wankers in Sydney are pulling their heads in and leaving people alone for once. As a state, we have huge mineral reserves and massive export capabilities; yet politically we suck ( and yes, I am die hard Labor supporter as well ). They need to devote more time to helping people and improving the state and less time to buggering about with this crap.

                              Bloody idiots..

                              Regards,
