  • MS Excel guru required.. [COMPLETED]

Any Excel guru's here? (Project now completed. thanks!)

I need a small database created, will be all repetitive data so want to use a preset form to enter it. I Am stuffed when it comes to Forms & Macro's!

    Basically:
    A1 = Name / A2= Payment type (Choice of 3 buttons = predetermined date entered into A2) / A3 = Type (Choice of 8 items (possible multiples) / A4 = Deleivered.

If anyone is good in that type of thing, I would love to have a chat!

    Anyone?? Bueller??

    Thanks!

      Re: MS Excel guru required..

I'm more handy with excel than a guru! But spent most of my teenage years programming in VB, so I have a good handle on the scripting side of things.

      Few questions though:
      1. What exactly is it you want to achieve, can't quite make it out from infomation provided?
      2. What version of excel do you have?
      3. Is there a time frame for completion of project?

Are you sure you want to use excel? MS Access is much better suited for databases... Depends on what the final outcome is and how you want it to operate.

PM with specifics? Although I've been baten to the punch by minutes...

Edit: Sounds like its for keeping track of your stickers for PP members?

a real simple solution is to use data validation. see this for an example

          Re: MS Excel guru required..

          Thanks Guys.

Yes it is for keeping track of stickers. Using PM's is rather clunky, and I want to make sure that stickers go out when paid etc.

Just started work so i will type something out a bit later to explain further.

The one sent is very close (thanks) but I am looking to use a "Form" rather than data validation to make it quicker.

Basically a form with a "NEW" button (that starts a new line (row)

Client name text box which enters it into the Name column.

3 buttons for payment type that enter said payment type into the next column (PAID type)

A "Sent" button which when clicked enters the Date clicked into the 3rd column (Date sent)

          Thats it!

          Thanks guys.

Wouldn't it be so much easier to set up an MS Access database?

Edit: failed to read Matty & Loz's reply carefully, but yes +1 for MS Access!

TP has emailed me the requirements of his little project, while I would normally advocate MS Access for this style of project as I mentioned earlier and William has just mentioned, it would be a severe case of over engineering a solution!!!

On the otherhand, we all seem to love over engineering? Just look at our rigs!!!

Back on topic, TP, will look at it again when I start shift tonight...

I'll let Matt have a go. Never done forms in Excel (I use MS-Access for such things) so although it would be a learning process, it might not eventuate at all!!

I could over engineer it for you.
15+ years of C/C++, database and web application development.
Excel should cover your needs though.

                    Scott.

                      Re: MS Excel guru required..

So I had some free time while waiting for a friend to pick up me to go fishin yesterday and knocked this up. I think it meets the vague specs provided by TP and can be modified easily for anything more that is needed. Anyway I've uploaded it here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=K5BG0DF3

I was thinking of adding in some buttons to show the full table and other stuff like generating a printout of the clietns address (overengineering lol).... When i read the requirements I realised that it wasn't a fully functioning package as it only tracks payment and delivery and not the actual amounts. Feel free to modify the database, its just my little contribution to PradoPoint!

                      Cheers
