  • 60,000KM SERVICE in S.A

    Lads,

I am due for the 60,000km service and the price ($525 - $725) seems steep.. I have rang around and everyone is bracketing their prices....no-one wants to commit to a solid price

Have any of the S.A PP'ers done this service recently - and where and how much did they burn you

    Hey Babs
Not sure how big the 60k is but i just did my 120km service (all fluids) came in just shy of $450. I used Ultra tune at Aberfoyle Park. They are really good. I use them for both the prado and also my wifes car. I only deal with the owner and have had nothing but professional service from them.
Have you tried calling other companies apart from Toyota?
Also a while back i put a post on here re servicing www.fixedpricecarservice.com.au
You might be surprised. Also you can book that price over the website
Good luck and let me know how you go

        Would you recommend them??

I have been using Kittle Toyota since I arrived in Adelaide as it is the closest to work.

          Hi Babs
You Could use this as a bargaining tool, I am sure they would give you a good quote to secure your custom from another dealer.

            Re: 60,000KM SERVICE in S.A

When I first arrived in Adl, I took my Camry to the then Salisbury Toyota for a service. I found the young desk jockey to be rude and never had confidence in their work due to their lack of professionalism of the other servicing staff.

So I took my business to Northpoint as my work had a discount contract with them. I was happy with them and always professional in every manner.

Until about a year ago when I presented the Prado with 3 issues. 1 issue they explained away without doing any work but the other 2 issues resulted in unnecessary work. I found that there's been a across the board change to the service desk staff, with a corresponding change in attitude. So since then, I decided to do my own services where I can & have never gone back to them except that their parts departmnt is still as helpful as always and are still giving me the discount. Perhaps my last contact with Northpoint was a once off but it has turned me off the same way Salisbury Toyota turned me off.

I believe MickL recommends ARB Elizabeth for servicing. My neighbour also says that he has a mechanic mate in Salisbury but I haven't taken that offer yet. I will prob take the Prado to ARB for the next major service and just continue to do the rest myself.

Babs, I've heard a few bad reports on your dealer, so I avoided them like the plaque. I have serviced my rig with Northpoint since about 30K and haven't had any issues so far.
I haven't worked out whether I will be taking over the servicing after warranty expires because I don't know if I'll trade up to the 150 or hold onto the 120.
As amts say, might be worth dropping into ARB elizabeth, probably even closer to your work. I've been dealing with Scott for a while.

I didn't know ARB did servicing? Or is it only the Elizabeth one?

I'm currently using CMI Toyota in the city, as the last service centre was giving me the run around on a few issues that I repeated told them needed to be addressed, for example - "... there's nothing wrong, we can't reproduce the noise you told us about... " they were referring to the tail-shaft cluck i mentioned. CMI later told me that after they loocked at it for me, that so much grease went into it - that even they were surprised, they did however and only just, stop short of asking me to name the previous service agent.

Just had the $100k service done - damge was approx $590 or thereabouts...

Yes just the Elizabeth one. MickL has also mentioned in PP that he isn't that keen on ARB Regency for anything (at least that's the conclusion I get from his posts)

I'm currently using CMI Toyota in the city
My colleague who had a 120 and now a 150 had his 120 serviced at CMI because he knew the service manager there. When he sold the 120 to another colleague, this other colleague reckoned that the driveshafts were never greased as it looked bone dry.

My 2 issues with Northpoint related to a complaint of scratching noise under the steering wheel. They tell me that it is the idler pulley bearing and changed that. 2nd issue was the car being internittently hard to start. They tell me that the wrong spark plugs were put in by the previous owner and changed that. I asked to see the old spark plugs and they said sure but when I turned up to collect the car, they tell me that the bin was emptied.

Not too long after getting the car back, both problems appeared again. It turns out that the scratching noise is to do with the ventilation system behind the centre console. When I changed the climate control to a temperature where it is between sending air through the face vents and the feet vents, the scratching noise appears and only when the weather starts to get warm (like this time of the year). And regarding the hard to start issue, it has got to do with a particular key/transponder. Only one key gives me this problem, the other key doesn't.

I can't be bothered taking it back to them anymore. I'm satisfied to pay for the 2 things that they did provided that they did do it and not just say that they did. However, I can't easily verify that it was done and it was unnecessary because it didn't solve the 2 issues I had.

Jase, is that busty girl with the low cut top still there? She does have fairly good knowledge about cars but she tells me that she was relieving at Hillcrest. She normally works at the Northpoint on Main North Road.

Sounds like a great reason to inquire about a Service or High beams or any subject at all there Andrew! Lol

Thanks Andrew, I'll take the caution!

I will say though that for the moment they seem ok... And prior to the first time I took it in to them the knock was quiet audible, now barely noticable if at all. So they seem to be doing what I'm asking (for the moment), but on the other nad - wouldn't feel bad about swapping again if i thought for a second that they didn't do something and said that they did!!!

So far only used ARB Regency, while they did completely mess up my bullbar order at the time, I still managed to get one fitted that particular day!
Might have to PM Mick and find out what the deal is on Elizabeth over Regency???

I am proud to tell you that not once when we were discussing my issues did my eyes stray from her eyes. The Prado is my baby and nothing is going to distract me when I'm talking about MY Prado
