        Re: 12v Air compressor

Hmm, looks remarkably similar to one I bought a few years ago (except the hose was yellow on mine). I used it half a dozen times before the in line fuse melted so I swapped it for a Bluetongue IV.

I think the one you have bought is a clone of the Projecta pump which seem to have an OK reputation, but I must say I never really noticed a lot of difference when pumping tyres using the twin head model compared to the Bluetongue once I upgraded the hose on the Bluetongue. A big difference in price though, the Bluetongue was around $300 compared to your $90, but it wasnt a nice feeling being miles from nowhere with a pump that had just dropped off the perch.

I believe in a simple rule, and that is, if you are relying on a piece of equipment in remote locations, make sure it is a good quality product, do not use imitations.
it is that simple, as you only get what you pay for, and the poor man will always pay twise.

            Re: 12v Air compressor

Hopefully it treats you well, But when i brought my aircompressor, i decided money wasn't really a factor. when it comes to recovery gear and aircompressors etc, i will try and get the best. In the end if your stuck in the middle of nowhere it best to have real quality gear, not saying that this unit you got is not quality.. But as Croozza said you tend to get what you pay for.

I ended up getting the Bushranger Max Air 2, they are not the cheapest, i paid $340 which was a pretty decent price (normally around 380ish) but as i had heard some good things about them and a good mate also has one, i decided i would give it a go. one thing i can say is that they are a fantastic unit, solid, and everything comes in a great carry bag, I have only used it a couple of times at home to keep the tyres on the Prado and Suzuki up to spec, but i'm sure that i will do me for a fair few years with out a drama. I once brought a 50 dollar unit from Supercheap and it lasted about 2 minutes before it clapped out  ...... i have wasted plenty of dosh on cheap gear..... not any more...

            just my 2c

            Cheers

I agree with what the guys have said above, and that is the exact reason I went and shouted myself one of the ARB portable compressors.

                Re: 12v Air compressor

I've got one of those compressors: I think it is the same. It works well; used it many times as it went on the trip to Lake Eyre and up the Strzelecki Track with us a couple of months ago but there are some problems.
The base plate fell off it as all the nuts holding it on came undone so I replaced and glued them all.
The bag fell to bits as it isn't strong enough to hold its weight so I am in the process of getting something better as I carry my tyre repair kit; rapid deflator etc in the bag with the compressor.
But the worst thing is that the cable and hose aren't long enough to reach the driver's side rear tyre when connected to the battery(I only have one in the 120) without someone holding the compressor up over the engine to shorten the distance. To solve this problem, I have taken it to an Auto Electrician and he added 4 metres to the cable for $20 so it can even reach the camper trailer's tyres while attached to the car; quite a distance from the car battery to the camper's tyre on the driver's side.
Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any ideas that I could use as it seems to be ok otherwise.

                  12v Air compressor

Thanks for all the feedback. I've bought it now so I'll see how it goes.
I will change the end to a Anderson connector so I can plug in at the rear of the car & camper trailer.

                  Cheers Don
