Hi Wazza - not sure if this helps but since you got no replies as yet thought i would in case it helps you out. i got the 3200 and its been great. I had no worries with it at all. Actually been too good sometimes because we pick up other conversations that are too far away from us, thinking they are from someone in our group. Others with us cannot hear them but think that must have something more to do with the aerial :?: cheers

      Hi

Its not narrow band if that matters. http://www.uhfcb.com.au/UHF-CB-Changes.php

They have the opinion that the new channels will slot in between the old ones with minimal interference, so you will get a few years out of it before it is illegal to operate.

The 3220 should be a reasonable unit. I have the 3420 whihc is essentially the same but has additional controls on the mic. This is not the one with the LCD display but only allows you to change channle including returning to or setting your primary channel.

          these are good reliable units.
we run over 100 of these units at our work,
and are easy to use, put up with the dust, and clear and clean transmissions.

Wazza I've had one for 2yrs. Hasn't let me down. I think they are a great unit.

I got the remote microphone, which is really worth it if your budget stretched that far.

It has all the features and works well.

As some others have mentioned, the UHF CB will be changing next year. While you can still use the 3220 unit, it will have crappy reception for anybody using a new set with 80 channels and you won't be able to use the extra 40 new channels that will be available.

If you are looking at GME, I spoke to GME regarding this issue a while back. They advised that the TX 3340 and TX 3100 radios (and any radios newer than those) can be returned to GME and 'upgraded to operate on the new channels when the legislation comes out in January 2011. The Icom 400Pro is another way to go - don't know about the other Icom with the hand mic. Also don't know about the Unidens.

Definately something to consider - maybe pay a bit more now and be able to keep the unit for a lot longer.
