  • DO YOU HAVE A BULLBAR?? THINK ABOUT IT...

Driving at 225km/h out near Mitchell (Qld) in his BMW Z4 the Driver

    hit a Kangaroo..

    The kangaroo disappeared!

The driver stopped and wondered where did the kangaroo go?

    Scroll

    Down to see what he

    Found......

    For

All you drivers without bullbars, this is how you pack a 70 kg kangaroo into a BMW Z4 Convertible....

This is how the email was sent to me but you will see 3 problems with it. The Z4 is LHD, the number plate is European and the animal seems to have quite longish fur/hair.

Now I know these pix are gruesome but it is dangerous to drive in western Qld after about 4pm and early in the morning before about 6am as the kangaroos are everywhere. Maybe a bullbar on your Prado could save you from a similar fate.

Re: DO YOU HAVE A BULLBAR?? THINK ABOUT IT...

You do realise that the BMW has European plates? I doubt that would be a kangaroo.

In any event, it's absorbed the kangaroo which is quite safe for the occupants. Had he of had a bullbar (or had a bullbar on any sedan for that matter) it's likely the kangaroo would have been flicked up and over the bonnet into the windscreen - safe to NOT have one.

As for driving in kangaroo country, nothing is more effective than driving slower and to the conditions. Having a bullbar will not magically protect from damage and can infact cause more damage to your vehicle, especially to the chassis after an impact.

      Nice story Sunshine

Sorry to burst your bubble, but this looks like another story I saw years ago about a Z4 that collected a deer in Europe. Pictures are the same too.

I think you've been sold a pup. The car is LHD and those are not QLD Plates...

If the kangaroo was on its high point of his jump, it would hit the windscreen whether or not there was a bullbar.
It would be a different situation for a 4WD with a bullbar.

LHD and European plates are for sure but that's just how I got the email.

Easy to overlook. Someone wanting to make a point has "australianised" the event. Enjoyed the piccies nonetheless. Cheers Bear

There's obviously still a very real risk of that yes, however, if the vehicle didn't have a bullbar it would absorb the impact to a degree making is a little less likely. A bullbar on the other hand would guarantee it would hit the windscreen.

Incorrect. If the kangaroo was "on it's high point of his jump" as you put it, it could still likely flick up and over the bonnet - even in a 4WD, unless you had some serious lift. I've seen the end result a few times of kangaroo's going through 4WD windscreen - it does happen.

In any event, doing 100kph (let alone 200kph+) and hitting a kangaroo, a bullbar isn't going to save you from sustaining damage. In fact it is likely the bullbar would have caused more hidden damage to your vehicle (ie chassis) from the impact. The exception to this is the smart bars that are available (which by the way are very effective).

Wow...imagine the stink trying to get it out.

Bullbars are a real catch 22. In some circumstances they will save you (animal strike) but others they will lessen your chances of survival (big head on where they effect the crumple zones)

Spose we cant have a cake and eat it too

Bull bars are great for hanging towels off when you are at the beach, attaching antennas to, screwing on extra lights, bolting up winches, running over ferals, leaning on when drinking beer.
My fourby looked kind of naked without one, ugly, sort of mother in law without the bra on.
150 Vx D4D, Deluxe Arb bar, winch, Hayman Reece Towbar, UBP, P3 Tekonsha, 'n stuff.
"When cooking on a camp fire it must be cool enough to cook on so it needs to burn down to coals, at least in parts. It is customary to drink beer while waiting for the fire to cool down.
I recommend starting with a very big fire"-Vince.
