Re: DO YOU HAVE A BULLBAR?? THINK ABOUT IT...

I've lived on a serious Eastern Grey roo road for the last 8 odd years, and we have 3 vehicles:

      1. Prado - with steel bullbar.
      2. Hilux - with steel bullbar.
      3. VW - with nothing.

We've dodged many a roo, but we have hit 4 roos. And as Murphy would dictate, all 4 have been hit with the VW. Fortunately, 3 of them have caused minor plastic damage only, but the 4th was an insurance job, bonnet crumpled, lights smashed etc. The first 3 were all hit at around 30 km/h after rapid braking, the 4th was probably hit slightly faster and it was a huge fella. This is all on a 100 km/h country road, but we are careful and drive 60-70 km/h at night, dawn & dusk.

One of the ones that only caused plastic damage actually ended up caught under the LHS mudguard after stopping. Tail thumping the ground as if to cause an earthquake and legs kicking madly. I got out of the vehicle to see what I could do and rapidly got back in lest he free himself and determine that it was I who caused him harm. I reversed the VW in attempt to free him and dragged him along the tar for about 5m before it finally worked and he was free. I half expected him to turn around and kick hell out of the car but thankfully he limped off into the bush and I noticed he was seriously injured and bleeding down his left side. On later inspection the car was completely undamaged apart from the bit of plastic that sits where the fog light would be if we had fog lights. That was missing and I didn't see it in the dark at the time so I had to buy a new bit of plastic. I couldn't believe that was the only damage after the scene I had just witnessed.

It's scarey stuff when it happens, but as to the bullbar question? Our moral is - our roos seem to know how to avoid cars with bullbars - maybe the bullbar is a deterrent?

But this also could serve as an advertisement for whatever VW put in their frontend pliable plastics to withstand this sort of treatment, I'm damned impressed.

Re: DO YOU HAVE A BULLBAR?? THINK ABOUT IT...

i have had a rodeo with full aluminium bbar and my 120 prado with the factory aluminium. They have done similar travelling - camping and trips to western qld. i also (still) have a hilux with nudge bar - same trips. for some reason I hit things in the two with the cars with alloy bars. the Prado attracted animals of all kinds from owls, many birds to snake and kangaroos and wallabies. after some near misses on pigs running across the highway I decided with the new 150 Prado to go steel ARB bbar.
in the 120 I hit a small wallaby at 80km/h on a dirt track right on the cross member of the bbar (toughest spot) and it still managed to bend the left side of the bbar back about an inch - so it sat against the body panel on one side. I pushed my rodeo out of a bog one day with 3 other blokes when stuck in mud - and actually bent the top of the bbar back to the bonnet. I had to use a strap against a tree to try and bend it back - although you know it's weaker.

I don't think a bbar is necessary for most 4x4 drivers - increasing fuel economy and you have insurance anyway. however if you do travel to remote areas by yourself, then I feel it's good insurance not to be stuck on the side of the road for too long. however i do feel steel is the way to go

Re: DO YOU HAVE A BULLBAR?? THINK ABOUT IT...

I used my Bullbar to move a car similar to the Z4 only a few weeks ago - the knob decided he needed to park right up against me in the city.....

I was already parked up against a street pole to my rear - so I "used" my ARB DELUXE bar to great effect.....

I was sitting in the truck waiting for my 39 week pregnant wife to come out from her appointment and this wanker decided I should move so he could park his shiney dick extension right out the front. when I didnt move after 10 mins he came over and asked me to leave as I obviously wasnt parked for an appointment. I told him very politely to "go away please" and he gave me a gob full of crap. He then parked accross the loading area park and boxed me in with about 2 inches of room between us.

Looked like a very smug man when he walked away!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bullbars are very useful if they are applied correctly
