  • Petrol tank removal for Injected gas

Could some one please assist with information on which petrol tank should be removed on a 120 series prado, to install lpg for injected gas.

Information on the reason behind removing which tank would be much appreciated.

    Thanks Glen.

The rear tank gets removed. Haven't heard of the front one being removed.

The rear tank gets replaced as the car only ever uses the front fuel tank. There are a fuel pump in the rear fuel tank, which pumps the fuel to the front fuel tank.

Re: Petrol tank removal for Injected gas

        Good day Prado'ers
I have had Injected LPG installed (about 18 months ago) and love it - good cheap running, minimal power loss - really great.
        1 thing bothers me tho'
the 90l light is permanently on, and the installer didn't know how to disable it (apparently asked the manufacturer, and Toyota).
for anyone who has had the sub tank removed, is your 90lt light lit?
if not, any ideas how to disable it/turn it off?
        thanks

The 90 series has a pump in both tanks the 120 series has a pump in the front tank only, this pump draws fuel from the rear tank to the front tank as it pumps to the injectors . Thats why they take out the rear tank ,nothing in there.. (fuel gauge and petrol )

Yes my Prado is on gas and the 90 litre light is on all the time , this is because you are only using the 90 litres in the front tank ,the computer thinks the rear tank is empty , doesn't know its not there. You could try taking the globe out or sticking something on the dash so you can not see it.

Should be able to disable it through one of the tank plug wires, but you could also, depending on the system, make the LPG tank be the rear tank fuel level.

Re: Petrol tank removal for Injected gas

I have removed the rear petrol tank to put it on Injected gas, blocked off all unused petrol lines and fed back the pump line back in to the front tank.
I realise that the 90 l light would be on, but now the petrol gauge in the car is showing empty even though it is full.
Any adive would be appreciated Thanks.

This may help ,,from an old post LPG conversions ,,,,this comes from the cylinder install manual for my liquid injection install. 2004 prado (late 2004 with 5 speed box)

                  Petrol Gauge Wiring Modification

                  1. Cut off wiring from sub tank. Install 50 ohm resistor between brown and yel/black wires and insulate.

                  2. Join the two white/black wires (next to each other) and insulate.

                  3. connect the remaining white/black (between the brown and yel/black to ground (earth).

90l light will always be on and fuel gauge works only from front tank.

If i ever pull the dash out i will get rid of the 90l light aswell.
