Which CB?

Hey guys,

Looking at either the ICOM 400Pro or the ICOM 440.

Both are upgradable apparently when the new rules come out.

Which one would be the better radio?

Read it somewhere here in one of the threads, as well as via google.

Dealer also confirmed this.

Did you speak with them?

I've bought the 400 pro(sitting on the table right now!) but I did like the idea of the mic having the speaker, but I don't want the have that but not be able to update. Like I said, the dealer has told me both can be updated, but of course he is going to say that. I believe him more about the 400pro coz I've been hearing for years how good this radio is and how much it can be reprogrammed.

I just need someone to say that they know for sure that both can be updated, and if that is the case for sure I was change over to the 440.
I guess I'll probably have to wait til monday and call them myself :-)

Yes I spoke direct with Icom service dept.

If that's the case then I did the right thing buying the one I did...

I wonder why though so many people are of the understanding that the 440 can also be updated....

I called Icom this morning.

The official line is that the 440 does not support an upgrade to the 80 channel system. He did say that they are testing it in Japan and ironing out bugs but it isnt officially supported, yet.

Maybe.....

I've decided to go with the 440 anyways coz it meets my current needs the best.

i spoke with GME techinal Nsw yesterday.
the TX3200 and TX3400 are not upgradable.
the TX3220 and TX3440 will be upgradable in possibly Feb 2011 (they are running late with parts).
if the unit is upgradable, it will require a new chip (not re-flashable) and cost between $150-200.
unit needs to be sent to head office.
this is very disappointing as i prefer GME but if i had to buy another unit, it would be an Icom.
