  • G'day

    Hi All,

Figured I'd better introduce myself. Been lurking off and on for a while now.

I'm a 2 time Prado owner having first bought a silver 2003 GXL V6 when I got hooked after seeing it at the offical Toyota media launch for the 120 series, in Alice Springs. Updated last year to the exact same car, just the 2009 model.

I am a freelance photographer and do a lot of work with 4WD Action now, and previously did a lot with Overlander 4WD. Also plenty of work with the motorcycle mags, and various other bread and butter jobs.

When I bought the new car I had the sovereign bar, uhf, dual battery setup, and racks, taken out of the old car and refitted. I have recently fitted a set of boab draws, and last week a set of bilsteins/king springs. I have the 21 ltr longranger water tank on order and that will do me for a while.

G'day to the few people I already know on this forum, and I hope I will be able to contribute something here.

Welcome to PP mate, be careful the stuff in here can be addictive and expensive!
Looking forward to seeing some pics of your rig. Are you planning any mods?

        Re: G'day

I've already shot at least one PP rig for Action...

The latest round of mods has tapped me out for a while now. I'm enjoying the Boab draws and bashplate. Just need to get a handle on my suspension mod - 80mm lift was more than I wanted and awkward for my work around the city. Might go a snorkel at some point if I can be assured of no undue wind noise on the freeway stretches. The Rhino cage is bad enough without adding to it. I'll search for this on the tech threads.

There is always a slight increase in noise when adding an item such as the snorkel that affectes the airflow dynamics around the car. However, when I added the snorkel to my rig while I noticed it slightly the change in noise it was only minimal - and now I don't even know that its there, used to it. The turbo spooling down can also be heard, but only very slightly - but you wont need to worry about that being in a V6.

But its all been discussed at length in other threads...

Tim ,I have a Safari snorkel on a V6 and there was no discenable increase in noise when I had it fitted. Neil

Thanks Neil, I'll look at Safari when I'm ready to go ahead.

Schaffer - some work on my website. Really should update it though as nothing new in 4WD editorial stuff for years. Only 'cause I'm slack. Might get finger out over chrissie though.

                  Hi Tim
I am also on my 2nd Prado - due end Jan 2011. - I call myself a Prado Tragic

First one was a 2003 GXL V6 sold on 2005 (what a tragedy) Been waiting 5 years for the next one - this time a 150 GXL D4D Auto White - no extras to avoid LCT. When it arrives - then the extras will come. Needed it to tow my 2t caravan - Commodore too light.

I googled Carsales.com for about 3 years on 2nd hand ones before convincing myself to get a new 150 D4D before the AUD$ goes down again (Who knows when that will happen :?: ).

PP is a great site - plenty of helpful info on everything under the sun and problems like the mudflaps issue - hoping Toyota will have it fixed mine gets built.

                  Cheers Woody

                      Hey Woody,

I'll bet the wait for that late chrissie pressie is killing you.

My first was a 2003 V6 as well. I was a dedicated Landrover man previously owning two Disco's. After flying to Alice Springs to cover the media launch of the 120, I drove back to Sydney in a demo vehicle with the Editor of Overlander 4WD. That drive sold me on the Prado and I haven't looked back.

And resale - I traded that 2nd Disco and got little more than 10k back on a 60k vehicle. When I updated last year they gave me 27.5k for the 2003 Prado. Now that makes more business sense.

Although I will always have a soft spot for the steady burble of that bent 8 donk...

                        Hi Tim

You are right!! - but I have waited 5 years to get the new one so what 7-8 weeks - Have learn't patience over the years. Still got old car and van so new van can sit in the yard till hte prado arrives and I get the required kms on it to tow. First trip will in end Feb with 20 or so other vans in the Cvan club then.

I'm a Skins Grey Nomad (your know - the oldies Spending the Kids Inheritance NOW)

Got a stock number today so I am going to see if I can track its build progress - its still in bits in Japan - won't be built till later this month.

The word from the the dealer was that the 3door version is not popular in OZ - Couldn't get a 5 dr to test drive so I had to take a 3dr out for a spin - Just wanted to see how the diesel is in the 150. Mine is a 5 Door.
The 3dr is a bit rolly - polly on the road - probably due to the short wheelbase. - not for me.

When I sold my 120 in 2005 - only lost about $4,000 over the 18 months which wasn't bad - Just beat the petrol hike at the time.
I like the diesel with 150 L fuel tank for towing my new van - should get a fair way between refills.

                        Cheers Woody
