  • Why don't tyre covers stay on straight?

This probably comes under the category of silly question for the day, but . . .
Has anyone discovered why almost all (90 series) hard tyre covers slip down rather than staying straight (with the word "Prado" staying horizontal). Yes I know it is not that important in the big scheme of things but I find it one of those little annoyances. Is there a solution?
    Cheers

My hard cover on my 120 stays on straight, once it was corrected, it has never moved.
Maybe because the tyre inside is brand spankers with no wear?

exaclty, in my experience anyway. I had to put the spare on for a week and when I changed it back over the cover would not fit the same so I had to pack it out to get it to fit tight and straight.

Mine used to be straight till I put a worn tyre on the back. Now it shifts

The cover on my 120 always seems to end up with the word Prado sloping down to the right by a few degrees. Even with the clasp adjusted so it is very hard to do up, so as tight as it can be put on, it still slopes after the first drive. It is a minor thing, but still annoying.

                    Hi Roger
I had the same thing when the spare was down on tread and lived with it until replacing all 5 just recently.
To fix it, I had some boat engine-bay sound proofing lying around that is a spongy material with some self adhesive sticky stuff on one side. It's abt 25 mm thick. I cut it into smallish squares abt 100mm wide and stuck 3 of them to the inside of the cover, top and 2 sides. It held nicely when the rachet was done up tight.
Just peeled it off when it wouldn't fit over the new tyres.
                    Cheers

Re: Why don't tyre covers stay on straight?

Sorry but you all failed to look at the big picture as to WHY !!!! WEll why would the cover have to be removed , simple to change the tyre . Why would the tyre have to be changed , 90% of the time is because one of the tyres on the ground is flat . Now to get to the jack you need to rmove all the gear from the back of the vehicle and of course the largest item is the esky . Why is there an esky in the back , because it is keeping the beer cold . Now the esky has been removed and is sitting on the ground , ok before the jack is taken out of the back one must wet the throat , oh yes there is beer in the esky , now that is fixed next job is to place the jack under the car , one must wet the throat before this is done and you know what to do as you just moist the tonsiles not so long ago , ok car is up wheel nuts are off and yes another beer is required to lift the wheel off . Now the sprare must be removed 6 beers later the key is found to remove the cover , ok the cover is off and the nuts are removed , you mite need another beer to atempt the next lift , the spare is off and lying on the ground next to the flat ok time for another beer you put a tyre back on tighten the nuts and lower the car . Woops you just put the flat tyre back on so 4 more beers the tyre is off and the spare is on and the vehicle is lowered time for a beer . You the put the flat on the back throw the cover inside the cargo area along with the rest of the gear have a beer before the esky gets put away and no room ???? have 2 more beers to work out the wheel covere should come out the car and placed over the spare flat tyre . After another 3 beers of atempting to put it on straigt you give up and leave it how it is - CROOKED . You then plaCe the EMPTY esky in the back and get the wife to drive to the closest bottle shop as you need a few beers after all the lifting and hard work you just did .

Maybe the cover is still straight - its just the vehicle that's moved?
