  • DP Chip/Steinbourer

Was wondering who out there has the 1kz either in a 90 or 120 series and what are their thoughts on the dp chip or steinbourer, eg, power/torque, fuel economy, worth the $$$, did you notice a big difference pulling up steep hills eg Hawksbury or Mooney Mooney here in Sydney. Regards Steve M

    Re: DP Chip/Steinbourer

we have a 120 with exhaust and steinbeauer.
the biggest result was just the exhaust.
the chip is great as we can switch it on/off with in-cab switch.
with just the chip (no exhaust) you could clearly notice the difference,
but after the exhaust, the chip just allows for more pull/torque at top end (we find).

      Hi damo

Your fuelly is pretty high. Is that down to the chip or something else?

um need to clean my intake manifold, my injectors need replacing and we just got back from towing the van.
my injectors are the main issue.
there is no difference with fuel consumption whether i use the chip or not.
it dropped a little when the exhaust went on

            Re: DP Chip/Steinbourer

            Hi Steve,
We have still have had no probs with the dp chip still getting pretty reasonable fuel economy on long trips, decent amount of power especially since we have had the exhaust done. The DP chip was probably the best mod we have put on the Prado especially when we were towing our fully loaded jayco camper up to Darwin from Melbourne, certainly done the hills with ease with no gear kickbacks. We would happily recommend it to anyone.
            Cheers

              Re: DP Chip/Steinbourer

Cheers Adam, thanks for that, I have been thinking of getting rid of it and going back to petrol as I find it bit sluggish pulling up hills,on the beach compared to the old 3.4L V6 90 grande I had, not sure with yours prior to the chip but here in Sydney pulling up Mooney mooney or the hawksbury (not sure if you know of these hills on the F3) but I have the O/D button out flat to the boards and lucky to pull 100k, and I dont like the fact its revving at 3300 with od out trying to do it, am I expecting to much ?? maybe I am but it annoys me to be dragging along with the big turbo badge on the rear quarters either side and its falling behind. Sounds like the chip will increase the torque alot more, I was thinking also of the steinbourer as it pumps out 410nm over the 398 offered by the dp chip but sounds like the dp is more favourable among people, they are the same price for either. Did you have it fitted and dynoed or did you fit yourself ?? It doesnt seem to difficult to fit but was wondering more along the lines of " do they tune it to suit your vehicle "" ??. Sounds like the exhaust is the go but I have held off at the moment as some one told me just to get rid of the factory muffler and put more of a straight through exhaust on and will do the same job as the thaipan (spelling) or the beaurdesert exhaust which when I rang was around the $1000 mark but did read on here where they were cracking at the dump pipe due to in sufficent bracing. Might just replace the muffler only instead of the hole system and see if I notice the difference and then I will definately get a chip. Just did the head a few months ago ($3600) with only 103k on it so was a bit pissed about that ( I new they did it but at higher klms I would have thought). Have you noticed any difference in fuel economy better or worse ?? I get around the 13.2L per 100 round town and freeway is around the 10.2 if I keep it under 110, if under 100 Ill just crack the 10's if I push it 115/120 it will be in the 12/13's. just did a trip all freeway bit around town and was around the 13, but remembering this is not towing, 3 on board and probably about 250kg of luggage in the back, with OME suspension, steel winch bar (no winch) BFG's A/T's running standard size (70 profile not 75). Regards Steve
