      Re: Queensland floods

Here is a useful site that depicts the resions through Australia hit by flooding against different categories. Under "More Layers" click on road closures to see what routes are open. Useful for me as later in the week I'm heading from Canberra to SA South East and had been planning on heading via Horsham:

        Re: Queensland floods

I would recommend using the source information pages, the ones mentioned are +4th interps. They DO contain errors and are NOT the most current.

The best source for river/flood levels is from BoM, the data is presented under an ISO.

        For some interesting aerial imagery:

          Re: Queensland floods

          Hi Folks

The devastation over Qld in the past few weeks has been a life changing event. I was a volunteer in the Brisbane 1974 floods clean up which was considered a landmark event. The flooding we are currently seeing in Qld, NSW and Victoria is much worse than that.

I have several customers that have had personal and business devastation, one customer told me of their experience today that has re-inforced my faith in humanity. He is the State Manager which had a branch that had completely gone under water. He had volunteers turning up and asking what can they do, he said "we're ok we have staff can you help some residential people" whilst he had staff on site.

After an hour he said OK as he felt the volunteers appeared dissapointed, he mentioned an outstanding couple that turned up to help, 25 year old Americans on holiday in Brisbane, they worked for 8 hours and when he offered them a free addition to their holiday they said they were happy to assist and went on to help others.

That's the spirit we have seen of everybody in Qld, the request is now to donate cash if you can, this clean up will be ongoing for months.

          Regards, Richo.

              Re: Queensland floods

              How about this one

Where I was a bunch of Korean University Students turned up....about 15 of them.....only one spoke good English, she was the "leader" and informed the rest what they had to do.

This hasn't affected us Aussies only, EVERYONE has been touched by this.

It's good to see the Premiers appeal is up to 100 Million BUT it's a long way short of the 400 Million raised for the bushfires,,,and you would have to say that the number of people affected by this is far greater (although thankfully not as many deaths).....so the need (money wise) is possibly even greater.
