Also looked at a Blackwolf tent in a BCF store, but it had a tear in it from a clumsy customer, so thought it may not be tough enough. We also purchased a full insect screen which clips onto the awning should you need it in mossie country.

Purchased it at a Caravan and Camping show, where we were given a bit of a discount more than the $100- discount the company gives as a show special price.

      Hello Yowie,

I am just looking at the jet tent F25 and F30 at the moment but nobody seems to have them in stock and I was just trying to find out the packed length of the F25 that you have.
Would it be possible for you to measure your f25 packed length and put the measurment up on here to let me know? Would be much appreciated!

It says on the Jet tent website that the packed length of the F25 is 1.1Meters but I have been told by someone that it is actually 1.3Meters.
I'm just trying to find out if it will fit in my 4wd sideways and i would love to know the packed length of the F25.

Thanks Yowie. (or anyone with a F25)

        Darren,

F25 is 1.23 m long and 35cm wide. A couple of posts to 1.45 m long. The optional front and side panels, with their posts, are in bags of 1.45 m long. The front and side panels are solid, so they can form another room under the awning, or you can just add one side if needed to give you a wind break.

The number for Oztent is 02 97574466. The company appears at various NSW camping shows, possibly interstate as well, where they give discounts on their products.

Without hijacking the thread on Samo, I want to ask if there are any problems with the "knuckles" on the poles for the Jetents and Black Wolfs, especially after exposure to mud/dirt/sand? Also, I think the Black Wolf 270 can't have add-on components to make it bigger whereas the Black Wolf 240/300 can. It's worth knowing the ins & outs and pros & cons before forking out the hard earned.

                Hi Tim

I have a BW270 and the knuckles do seem alittle tight, but they are holding up well.

Jeez Samo, If I knew that were interested in an RV5, I could have brought it down with me today for you to try out.
I've been very happy with mine so far. I bought the RV5 nearly 2 yrs back at a great price then have been adding to it ever since - Fly, Peak Side Panels and then added the Deluxe Front Panel.
The front panel is excellent cause it just adds more awaning space when you need it.

Although those new Jet Tents are an impressive bit of kit, they cost a bit more, but do pack up in a smaller size which would fit better in the back of the GX.

                    cheers

That's the main reason why I purchased the Jet tent over the Oz tent, because being a shorter package, it will fit inside a vehicle, whereas the Oz tent is too long to fit inside a vehicle with a cargo barrier.

                        Hi guy's,
I sold my Rv4 with every attachment possible last year, after using it extensively over 3 years all over W.A in all sorts of weather conditions.
Now what i found was that if your going to be camping mostly on prepared camp sites they are a great tent! but if you go of the beaten track i.e uneven ground or the beach they are a pain in the arse...... on uneven ground with the square frame it can be a little tricky to set up and on sand a major fault is the sloping rear window as when the wind picks up, the sand is swept up the back and filtered through the back mesh filling the inside with sand.... now for some reason you can zipp the sides of the rear panel but not the underneath so sand will always come in.
Another fault is the way the top slopes down..... when conditions are right and condensation sets in (with or without fly) water builds from the top and drips down the sloped section and builds up on the cross bar which is roughly where your head is and it starts to drip on your face! a real piss of when your trying to sleep.
Finally my last trip to Sharkbay the wind was blowing about 40-45knots and in the middle of the night the internal frame could'nt handle it and it all snapped and tore the canvas.Needless to say that was my final trip with this tent and although i had it all repaired i had enough of it.
In terms of set up times in good weather and on grassed or prepared camp sites they dont take so long but throw in windy conditions, uneven ground and it takes a while to get right.
I had some great camping trips with the tent but overall my next choice would be the basic canvas tent someone posted up earlier.

Hmm I can't answer re the sand comments as we have never set up on the beach or really sandy locations.

However we have set our both our RV 5's (as separate tents) in the bush on sloping ground at night in the rain several times and never had problems.

As for the condensation problems we have only experienced it when we have not used the fly's

Its good to see Oztent have overcome some of the centre pole issues of more traditional tents .. something I'm struggling with is just how expensive their setups are? I like the ideas and principles but struggle to justify outlaying the sorts of dollars that their total solutions cost. Especially if they don't sound like they are 10 - 15 year investments.

I do like the blackwolf turbo design - although I am dubious about the term ripstop polyester. Canvas has been the go for 100's of years.

I thought I would do some research because I'm looking at tents also. It just so happens that my local BCF had the BW Turbo Lite 270, Oztent RV3 and a Jet Tent all setup in the showroom. I have to be honest, I ended up hovering around the BW Turbo Lite mostly - despite my earlier canvas comments (eats words). I liked some of the little things like the guy ropes having their own little zippable bag. Its 8KG's lighter and I have to admit, the Oztent's bag is 2m long and heavier!! I can see how people have had issues on uneven ground with the Oztent. I'm inclined to do a second pass and look over them again. BW's downfall is its lack of matching roofrack awning. Oztent have thought of the total package. Despite this - the BW Turbo Lite is my preference so far.
