Broken up by state as if you download the lot your in excess of a GB.

right click on the link and "save target as" - un zip them (you'll need something like Winrar, i used it rather than Winzip as it makes the files smaller, then copy into the Maps folder on your Ozi device.

My new hosting account claims to allow unlimited bandwidth, so anyone that wants them go nuts I'll amend the link if that changes!
I have downloaded the WA maps (thx McBain) now my question is how do I relate the file name of the map to the area it represents?

Example: one of the map names is something like e5009 and when I open it in Oziexplorer i dont have a clue where it is. So how would I find a specific area without trawling through hundreds of maps?
I would assume the file numbers are a map reference if so where do I find the map to use as the reference?

Hey Pomp

Here's a little index for the bottom corner of WA ........

Geoscience Oz also has a PDF index for the entire collection. You can download it from them or PM me your email address and I'll send you a copy. Once you get a handle on their referencing you'll find the right map.

Cheers

Cheers guys, not much detail on the maps I found. The Wilbinga to Seabird route doesnt show any off road trails, is this the norm or are there any more detailed maps available?

Hi Pomp,
I purchased a HEMA map of the Kimberly region and compared it with the standard topo map from Geo-science Australia, the HEMA map shows lots of 4wd tracks and handy information where the topo map only shows the main roads and access roads.
Hope this helps a little

G'day guys, Ive been following this forum for a while and found something that might be useful for you. Its a set of maps set up for Garmin units. It works fine in Mapsource software and gives a full Topo of Australia.

http://shonkylogic.net/shonkymaps/

Dodgy name but the bloke must have sense of humour.

Keep up the good work

Hi Scott, welcome to the forum.

Shonkymaps is all vector based and most people here are using OziExplorer or OziExplorer CE which does not support vector based data. These systems are limited to Raster. You can convert Vector to raster but the result is ordinary.

I've spoken to a few people who have used ShonkyMaps on their Garmin unit and they indicated that a lot of the 4wd tracks are missing and you are better off using Tracks 4 Australia to get the detail.

Before the mods get in, you should put your location in your profile so we all know where everyones is from.

also when you load the maps up in ozi CE it indexes them so when you drive off the side of one map it auto loads the adjacent one. (i couldn't get the desktop version to do this but i assume there must be a way).

NSW & Vic topos on dvd

Hi

I've got NSW 1:100,000 and NSW 1:25,o00 and Vic 1:50,000 topo maps on DVD.

These need oziexplore CE and windows mobile 5/6 to run
If you've got a gps unit running windows 5/6 you get a moving map. It's great off road

I'd be happy to distribute the DVD if we could find some fair way of reproducing it and distributing it.

I've seen these things distributed by making a list of people who want it. 1st person makes a copy and PM's the next one on the list. They supply address to send it (the original disk) to. Once they get it they contact the next person, etc. This means everyone only gets one lot of postage, and you don't send it to anyone who doesn't reply to a PM.

SO, if this seems reasonable... put me down as 1st on the list!

Cheers, Nige.

P.S. If anyone has the Flinders Ranges in 1:25000, I'd love a copy

Hmm I just downloaded the Hema map for Mid West WA and I dont think its as detailed as the free Geo science one. Still it was only another $20 into the Prado money pit.
