2005 Grande GPS Problem

Hi All
Long time lurker, first time poster.
I'm hoping someone here can give me some advice regarding my GPS unit in my Grande. Like a few posters, sometimes the unit puts me out to sea and the only way to get it back is to enter your position manually.
I have gotten into the GPS information from the diagnostic screen and it seems that it is receiving no GPS data from any satellites and I don't have the GPS icon on the main screen.
Today I ripped out the unit suspecting that the GPS plug had come out, but it hadn't, so I'm now out of ideas.
I'm using Whereis 17.
Any ideas anyone???

Not really sure but you could try looking at any error codes in the diagnostic menu and resetting them after noting them. Eclipse Fujitsu Ten technical support are very helpful. Let us know how you go. Good luck Peter

I saw Peters email and sent a message to [email protected]. They replied with "have you check the gps antenna and you might need to go to a dealership to check to diagnostics of the unit. It might be more useful to call them instead of email. I'm told by another source that the antennae needs a 5v current/charge and that sometimes if this dies then the unit will point randomly. There's a guy in marrickville Sydney that's supposed to be good at fixing prado gps probs. It seems to be a known fault. I'm going to hunt him down next week. Are we the only two with this prob???

I met up with the electronics guy, who has fixed a few of these GPS systems before, he had a couple of the different units sitting on the customer service bench. i have the old unit, where the GPS is mounted under the drivers seat. I take it that the 05 model is built into the dash. either way, basically our problem is that the laser is worn and torn. Everytime you turn your car ignition on the disc starts up and as such irrespective of the kms the laser will last as a guestimate 1000hours. He quoted me approx $500 to replace the laser (remains oem), which looks the same as a disc drive. I asked him about the GPS antennae, he said that that wasnt the prob. if the disc cant be read it, the coordinates cant be placed and it will default randomly.

He also gave me the option of an aftermarket one at $580 plus install with all the bells and whistles. Im going to take the unit from under the seat and get him to run some tests so that he can definitely show me the problem because the above advice is without the vehicle. but he seemed to know what he was talking about. I'll keep you posted with the results of the diagnostic.

My sat nav is fixed!!!! It turns out that it is the pcb control board that converts gps signals and then links it to the maps and the car wheels packed it in. He had to install a new control board. The laser disc is the most common problem, but isn't in my case and it seems to have identical probs with you. The guy knows his stuff!! He also does prado keys, rear camera and sells whereis maps for half the price. He has a website if your interested - nam.net.au Not recommending him but he fixed my sat nav and the car came back exactly as I left it. Hope that helps.

I've got one in my garage out of my 04 Grande (no Buletooth) I would of sold for half of that. Or you could buy a DigOptions unit for around the same price.

Arrrrrh! Where have you been hiding? At least it's fixed, I'm not that techno minded or good with electrics. Last time i mucked around with electrics i shorted a few fuses!! The satnav is connected to the driver door so when you take the DVD reader out under the seat, there is no sound out of the speaker. Considered the dig option and the bloke has all sorts but i prefer oem as opposed to the made in china options. It even has the Toyota logo on start up but the simpler the better. Maybe you might offer it to Clackers or anyone else with this problem.
