Hi guys,
We've decided on buying a Prado GXL 150 for the family. Very excited. Then I found this forum, full of great people and info. So hello to you all and please be nice I'm new not only to the Prado but to 4WD'ing in general!!! What I havent been able to find is loads of information about GPS. I want to put an aftermerket one in the dash. Toyota said that they don't actually have an aftermarket GPS for the GXL, they only have one for the GX, since the GXL (and VX) dash is different. So I've seen some people get some great looking ones in there, but don't quite have enough info for a newbie like me to get my head around the whole process.
So I've done some looking around, and from what I can see, there are a couple of options, and I'd like anyone who knows more to please share their opinions/experience with me. Thanks!!!!!
Updates:
UNITS:
Kenwood 7300 series. Seems to go in with some spacers that you can buy from AERPRO. Looks good and runs Garmin therefore can run OzTopo, so I'm lead to believe. Expensive though ~$2700AUD More info here: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...din-conversion
Chinese made GPS: They seem to come with the hazard light switch on the wrong side although that can be overcome. Cheaper ~$800 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Toyota-Pr...-/330569320593
The DigiOptions (talked about a lot on PP) GPS isn't compatible with the GXL (or the VX or Kakadu for that matter and the same theme applies across the board for all GPS's)
Mr DVD seems to have an option for the GXL that is based on the Eclipse GPS system which is installed quite low in the dash, and also is expensive at just short of $3K http://mr-dvd.com.au/image-viewer.ht...allery5j-9.jpg The eclipse is pretty good though from what I've heard.
(Thanks to PP member Braddo) There's also a VMS unit that looks good (although the 4WD maps seem to be 1:250,000?) and it fits perfectly in the GXL. More info here: http://vms4x4.com/product-in_dash_gp...prado-features These are a navigation solution only and do not include any multimedia capabilities.
(Thanks to PP member SGB) Another aftermarket model here, that fits perfectly into the GXL, at a very reasonable price (~$800) with multimedia capabilities. Presumably these run Windows CE like most of these Chinese GPS's and therefore can have offroad capabilities via OziExplorer or perhaps some other CE solution Im not aware of.

Please share your experiences, sources for your hardware, any fascia additions/plates/spacers you needed to do the job and most importantly where you sourced them from. I would find it a HUGE help and I'm sure I cant be the only one out there scratching my head over this!!! Thanks in advance guys!
