I trie dusing the remote , but nob , nothing

And Mav , I didn't get a scratch card on my unit, But the DVD thing has a registration code and a serial number so If you can send me the Web Link please

    Cheers

Sorry Mansour, I somehow missed this post. Anyway I think part of your question has been answered by dwolbers post.

The web link for activating the Route 66 software is:

    http://www.getactivationkey.com

Now the above website works with the scratch card that came with our Roadrovers as we did not get the DVD packaged Route 66 software. So I am not sure that it will work with your software. Well I just checked the website and it looks like it will work with your DVD software, just follow the link to where you can find the required number on your DVD package.

No problems Mansour, happy to help. As far as getting the old version of Route 66 then I would contact Jessie and see if she will send you the old version. She did it for us after we had all kinds of problems with the new version.

I do doubt whether Route 66 will assist with rectifying the problems with the new version as when I spoke to them they catagorically stated that they had no intention of supporting special builds which is what our version is. They went on to say that they would only support off the shelf Route 66 packages which are the ones that appear on their website.

I find Route 66 to be a very rudimentary satnav program that is lacking a lot of the refinements found in other satnav packages. Their implementation of route planning falls a long way short of being acceptable imo.

          Mav,

Did you ever connect your dvd stacker to the Roadrover? If so how did you go with it and did you source a din cable?

          Thanks, Higgsee

            Hi Higgsee,

I have not connected it up as yet and no I have not sourced a control cable either. My emails to American Boss in Sydney have never been replied to.

I am going to be installing it in a couple of weeks time as I am waiting on my reversing camera to arrive from Hong Kong. I don't want to have to pull the dash apart two times so I will leave it till I get the camera and do both together.

            • Thanks Mav,

The estimated pick up date for my vehicle is 28/04/08 so hopefully I will be fitting the Roadrover the next day. I sourced a cable fom a company called Binary Designs. Sent them the dimensions of the cable we are after and also a photo of the pin configuration. After waiting about four weeks the cable arrived to me. It is completely incorrect as it is way too small. Back to the drawing board.
I have seen an Alpine M-Bus cable about 3 metres in length that had exactly the same 8 pin plug on one end (female on the other). What I may do is buy this Alpine cable and cut the female end off and splice on the end that I received from Roadrover. This would make it male Sony protocol both ends. I cannot find a cable anywhere with Sony both ends. (Does not exist is the answer I get). My concern is that by doing this it could harm the head unit in some way when plugged in . The connector supplied by Roadrover as you would know has the 8 pin plug on one end and a plastic plug on the other. I think the electronic component in the middle is a filter??? Not sure if this is required to be fitted.

Just a couple of questions for you in relation to the Roadrover unit.

              - What type of reverse camera is supported i.e PAL or NTSC. (Don't know which type I have to get). Looking at pics of Mansour's gear, his looks like NTSC??
              - Can an IPOD be connected.

              Thanks Mav, Roadrover extraordinaire

              Higgsee.

                Higgsee.
I have been contemplating just making my own cable up, it would not be hard to do. I did find an 8 pin mini DIN male to 8 pin mini DIN male cable on ebay but there is no guarantee that it is a straight through cable. It most likely is but it would be just as easy to get the connectors from jaycar or DSE and build the cable myself.

The camera I bought from Hong Kong supports both formats and I am pretty sure that the Roadrover can support both PAL and NTSC. Anyway it only cost me $70 delivered for a CCD camera so if it is no good I will get something else to take its place.

You could connect an IPOD through one of the aux inputs but you would need to source an adaptor. I would bet that Jessie would know if they sold an IPOD adapter for the Roadrover. I simply do not bother with MP3 players on it as I use standard USB drives loaded with MP3s. I have an 8 GB USB drive I purchased off ebay for like $40 delivered and loaded it up with all my ripped songs from my CD collection. I have also started making MP3s of all the hard to find songs from Youtube video that I like and loaded them up on it as well. The roadrover supports MP3/4 and WMA formats for songs so there is no problem with it as a player.

Free Download Manager has a conversion facility to convert FLV files to MP3 format which makes it really easy to convert youtube video files.

                  Dear Mates

Regarding My Camera it supports both PAL: & NTSC , Am using the PAL Setting as it gives a clearer image especially in Night , Make Sure that you buy a camera with Night-Vision Cababilities or at least it has LEDs around it that will illuminate once the camera activiates

Regarding resitration of the Software , the site www.66.com requires the device code which I couldn't get anyway of the machine , do you know where can you get the device serial from on the road rover  :?:

Regarding connecting an IPOD , I would either use a FM Transmitter or use one of these off-the-shelf USB adaptors -I didn't try either still-

                  Take a look at this ;

                    Mansour,

When you select to activate the software, via the Route 66 display on the Roadrover, it will give you a screen that has the number required on it. It is a pain in the rear end the way they get you to activate the software cause you first have to use the code off the DVD package on the activation website and then you need to get the number from the activation screen on the Roadrover itself then you enter that into the website and it will give you the activation code number that you can then enter into the activation screen on the Roadrover.

The camera I ordered was this one:

                    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWN:IT&ih=023

                    Cheers

                      • Okay folks, another enterprising person on the Patrol forum has come up with a way of running the developement version of OziExplorer on his incar nav unit. Now it is not a roadrover but this method should work for the roadrover as well.

What I suggest is for those that want to try it is to use a separate SD card and follow the directions given on the post that I have linked to below.

Unfortunately the Roadrover use MIPSII architecture and the likes of Tom Tom are not writen to run on it. It would need to be a special build just like the Route 66, we have, is a special build to run on this architecture. I think it is also the reason that the new version Route 66 and Navteq map are causing problems cause Route 66 are forgetting that this is a MIPSII unit and are issueing the standard version of the software to roadrover. I think these are the problems you get when Route 66 folks are in the Netherlands and Roadrover are in China.

                                Dear fdtalla
I didn't buy mine from Dubai , I imported it from China through Jessie at roadrover - thanks to directions from Mav and the rest of the great guys here at the forume -

, However I installed it at a shop in Al-Mamzar Area called "Top Sound" who told me he carries out similar products from road rover for Camrey and Accords and he will start importing the Prado Ones soon - That was back in Feb 08 , give them a call and see if they did

Took them 2 hours to fix it with the reverse camera , good job overall , cost around 500Dhs, Al-Futtaim "Toyota Dearler"wanted 3000 first then they rejected to fix it and said they want to cancel my car's electrical warranty - My reply was AMEN , please do that

Actually my car runs better with the roadrover   because I don't have to hold the mobile while am driving 8) he he

Tell us how you go with it .. Good Luck Mate
