Unfortunately they only come in the Black/Grey/Beige leatherette finish.

They really look great though and I just updated the photos with better shots and some new ones.

        Whats their website?

I still might think about it and find out how much it would cost to get them retrimmed here. Probably would not be heaps

Other than that I am still thinking about a drop down one

Okay if you insist but I am trying to find a way of integrating it into the back of the seat. What do you think?

Okay I am now impressed with the Roadrover, I am successfully able to play a DVD on the rear headrest displays whilst listening to my MP3s playing and concurrently having the satnav working.

I can say that the headrest screens work perfectly there was absolutely no dead/stuck pixels and the picture quality is superb. My wife and daughter are suitably impressed with it all as am I.

Just a couple of shots with the DVD playing on the Roadrover and the rear headrest monitors.

First two are on the Roadrover screen the movie is Blackhawk Down:

The next three are of the headrest monitors working:

I have to say that the picture quality of these headrest monitors is exceptionally good I cannot believe that I paid so little for them considering what the same units go for here in Australia.

                  Edit: 02 Jan 08

I just picked up the IR headphones from the ebay seller who dropped them to me on his way up to start his holidays in Coffs. They are the same ones that can be purchased from the seller I got the headrests from but I ran out of time so I bought them from the guy in Sydney as he could get the to me before I head up to Brissy next week. They work perfectly with the headrest monitors IR transmitter.

So all up so far I have spent $1300.00 on getting this system together but I could have saved $75.00 if I had not purchased the DTV box. I am not complaining as it is a great price for the result.

Mav, I've been following the progress of your install with interest. I was leaning towards the Kenwood initially but after seeing your system I'm now very interested. Just one question. How is it working now???? Have you sorted out all the bugs??? I'd also love a picture of the Route 66 Navigation screens. I noticed a pic somewhere in the thread but I think it may have been the oziexplorer screen.

                    Thanks

While they sort out the bugs in the new route 66 software we have gone back to the older one. My one has been behaving itself fine with the older software, so it all looks good really
You can get some details and some screen shots at the following URL. (The software we have is a little different as it has been adjusted for the unit. On our screens the info that you see at the bottom is on the right hand side closest to the driver. But you should get a general idea from it)
                      http://www.66.com/route66/products.p...=0&prodid=3213

If you still want some photos let me know and I will take some.

I still have to connect the reverse camera and extra DVD screen in for the kids, but other than that I am pretty happy with it.
If you want to run Ozi, then there are not too many other easy solutions that are a nice integrated package out there.
Plus I like the look of the flush dash heaps better

                      cheers

                      • Hi, Bitdist, Thanks for the prompt reply. I love the flush dash look as well (it's basically sold me on this unti). Heaps better than the other setup.

One other question. Was the install easy to do (for a person who has some basic electrical knowledge.) Was it a straight plug in or did you have to splice all the wirng. Was everything included ie: reversing camera etc and would you bother with the DTV box (I think I saw some info that it couldn't be connected with the steering wheel controls but something else that said it could be connected but you had to use the remote control.)

Once again Thanks for the fantastic information..

                        • Hi All.. I am also looking at these units compared to the VMS system. And initially I would have just bought the VMS because of all the hassles people had with bugs./lockups etc.

But due to Mavs persistence and pioneering spirit I may get one of these little numbers ( for the kids you understand ).... A few questions though...

                          1. Where/how do you locate the GPS antenna
                          2. Do you need to get map updates from roadrover or can you get them direct from Route66
                          3. What maps are you guys recommending for the OziExplorer ?
                          4. What gets licenced here is it the maps or the Ozisoftwhere or both..
                          5. Can you load Ozi yourself later onto the unit ..
                          6. The unit has a 2nd video input ( for a seconds reversing camera that is not locked out by the reverse-gear selector.). how do you activate it ?

I would feel more comfortable with the unit if roadrover divulged the sequence to load applications like Ozi , and allow some other tweaks..so i am not reliant on some company being around in 3 years whe i need to do an update or something ..

Install was easy. Just a philips head screwdriver and a 10mm socket is all thas needed. There is nothing to splice or change. Just plug the cables in.
You need to take the whole centre piece out and then it is basically held together by a metal bracket on each side of the unit(If you look at Mcbains "how to take the dash apart" photos you will get the idea - but you don't need to do the airconditioning part of it as we have climate control) It looks a bit scary in the photos but it really is fine and easy
Once it is in pieces put the new bit of dash in, screw, push, clip, bolt, all together and put back.
The GPS was included, but not the reversing camera. I probably would not bother with the tv side of things, but having got it I will put it in at some stage. (I guess it depends how much you want to watch TV  )
And yes you do not use the steering wheel controls with the TV and you do use the remote control that came with it to control it

                            hope that helps

                            cheers

                              1. I put the GPS on the dash in the drivers corner (Cable through the dash and up the corner where the A piller covers comes down (pull the cover off and there is heaps of room)
                              2. Not sure about that - Mav might know that one
                              3. Ozi maps -whatever you want - With Ozi you can scan your own favorite maps in if you want, or buy your own already for it. Down here in Vic, I use the rooftop ones for off road, heaps of other ones for the high country, (look here for examples http://www.maptrax.com.au/c/149723/1...phic-maps.html melways, vicroads, then elsewhere, hema desert series, scanned in the ones that come with the desert parks pass, use the natmaps as a general australia map and have collected heaps of others over time
                              4. You need the Ozi CE registered here before giving it to them.

http://www.oziexplorer.com maps you just collect/buy /get over time and put the ones on you want as you use them. They take up a fair bit of room so I would put central australia ones on when I do a trip there (middle of next year ) and then take them off when I get back.

                              5. No, they have to do that (probably we could load it, but putting it on the menu to pick it is probably the hard thing)
                              6. Don't know yet, but will play with this with reversingcamera/tv install

ANy other questions - fire away

                                Thanks for the Info..

So how hard is it to get the old unit out and the new unit in ... without damaging the facia's etc etc ?? scared of scratching my new car ...

Also I saw somewhere here that you need an additional Facia from Toyota with the new roadrover for the new (updated) GXL ...but i cant see where you would need it... looks to bu flus fit from top to bottom without additional panels ??
