  • Guys,
I have been following this thread for months.
Thanks for the info- I too tried to get the unit direct BUT I never recieved an answer to my email.

The reason I'm posting is to let you know of another ofrum that might help you out, as long as you don't let on you have the "better- cheeper" unit 8)

    http://gpsoz.freeforums.org/vms-avnc-f4.html

GPS oz has created a forum to discuss the AVNC and has a lot of info regarding the unit. Might be of help?

    Cheers

BTW looks like I have to spring for the full priced unit, oh well you cannot win them all.

      Hi Mav
I just got around to doing my update and I think you might have missed a major change

It has wiped my Ozi Explorer

I have emailed Jessie and will see what she says, but I will not be happy if she says send it back to them to get re done

Bugger Tim you are correct it has done the same to me. I just did not notice it at the time until I read this from you and went and checked. Now that sucks big time.

Jessie has ceased responding to my emails as there is another catch with the activation process that also sucks big time and that is the Product Key card is only good for 3 activations. I had used to of the three allowed on the previous versions they sent and when I went to activate this one I accidentally left out one of the Device ID characters when entering it into the getactivationkey website. Instead of telling me that the Device ID had too few characters it went ahead and generated a bad key and then logged it as my third activation. Bingo the product key card is now useless and Route66 Support will not help one iota. Neither will Jessie and she is now ignoring my emails about this.

Live and learn I guess, I am very close to ditching the Roadrover and going with the Polaris unit now especially as it runs Sensis mapping software and not Navteq.

        • Just an update Tim, Jessie has just got back to me about the Ozi application and she is sending me another update package tomorrow that will re-install it so that is one problem down. However it looks as though if I want to activate my Route66 software Jessie wants me to purchase a new product key. My arguement to her is that I exhausted the use of my product key by them not getting the software right to begin with and having me use the the product key to activate the bad software packages.

I don't think I am going to win this one as they have already dug their heals in.

          • HI Mav
            that is pretty bad
It was certainly their fault you had to use the activation key up, not yours.
If we need to load another package to get OZI back, does this mean I will need to activate again? If so I will have used my three up as well
How much do they want for another activation key?
I guess if it is not too much it might be worth paying, if everything looks OK rather than forking out another 2k for another unit altogether

I'll see what she says to me

            cheers

I am not sure if it will mean re-installing Route66 again but if it does then yes you will need to re-activate again. I have had a gutfull of the Route 66 support people they are absolutely useless. The phone help is outsourced to India and they are not able to understand our accent and vice versa.

I started to liaise with Rob in the Netherlands directly but he has now ceased communicating as the last thing he wrote was, "sorry but you have used up the 3 allowed activations." I have pointed out to him that their website for activating is not very intelligent in that it will generate bad keys by allowing incorrect device IDs to be entered instead of telling you that there are not enough characters etc.

                • I was reading this post over and over again and I am about to place an order for the roadrover unit. However before I part with my money can you guy tell me your final toughts about this unit and its performance , is it really working well and would you recommend it?

I have an older Land Cruiser LC4/Prado 2003 (first in the new line) with basic sat-nav head unit (small b&w display) and I was wondering if installation would be the same as as in your new Prados? Also, will I be able to use original GPS antenna or should I use the roadrover one?

                  Anyway, would appreciate your thoughts....

Desmond, I am not sure that Roadrover will sell direct now as I believe that the company that sells them here in Aust. has raised an objection to the practise with Roadrover. However I would recommed the Polaris head unit if you cannot get the Roadrover. To be honest I would recommend the Polaris over the Roadrover simply because the Polaris Satnav program uses Sensis mapping which is superior to Navteq mapping in Australia.

Fo the money it is hard to beat. What else is out there that does everything including Ozi for about $900?
The normal navigation is not as important to me as Ozi explorer is so I would not look at anything that would not run it.
It all seems to be settled down and working fine for me.
I guess about the only thing mine does which is a bit annoying is that when you answer the phone with it, the volume is very low and it has to be turned up, then turned back down when back to the radio etc (But it may be my phone dowing that)

                      cheers

It will come with a GPS antenna anyway but any GPS antenna will do the trick.

                            • ok, I understand that I may need some additional toyota fascia to complete the install, I found one post with this:

It is the piece of dash that is around the climate control that needs changing. The old one has the step in where the new piece just stops and buts up to the edge of the raodrover unit. I'll search out the part number you will need (about $80)

I have LC4/UK Prado 2003 with this type of dash (pic). I understand that I will have to replace the climate control facia (the a/c stuff below the head unit) to match the roadrover head unit, correct?

Can someone please confirm that and post the toyota part number? I would appreciate.

The Polaris unit fits with no extra facia required. Mav is one fellow who has studied these units, I'd take his advice very seriously before you buy the roadrover. Good luck with the unit you choose.
