  • Buying 4x4 maps for a GPS unit

Once again I'm useless at all this stuff, but I am wanting to buy some maps for my GPS unit for offroading!

I am not sure where to go or how much they cost, but mainly after Victoria but would be happy to buy an Australian one and even pass it along to whoever wants it. I have one off a map and it's crap and only has a few maps with no real details!

If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great!

If u r running Garmin, then Garmin AusTopo would be good for u in Victoria as I'm lead to believe it shows a high percentage of Tracks in that State.

I'm not sure what unit it is! Sounds stupid I know but it's just a head unit off ebay but the onroad maps are iGo as far as I know. Does that help?

If its running IGo as the mapping software it won't read off road maps. You will need a program like Ozi Explorer that calls up map files and plots your position relative to it. Most of these units allow you to run software like this by specifying the nav path under settings on the unit. GeoScience Australia topo maps are a good starter.
