  • Pioneer AVIC-HD3

    Hi All,

Well since giving up on the Roadrover unit due to it not conforming to the Aussie Prado dash I have been looking around and I like the sound of the Pioneer AVIC-HD3 unit. From preliminary checking it looks to be okay as far as fitting into the Prado dash, however I have yet to see one in the flesh to measure it up.

My only concern is that I have not been able to confirm whether this unit has speed/red light camera and school zone warnings. If it does not then this would be a real problem and quite possibly a deal breaker for me as I really like this function on my Tom Tom Go 500.

    Cheers

    Mav

    Hi Mav
It looks very expensive at $3700 though, and it does not look like it can take Ozi. Also the only way to get MP3's on is to rip them off a CD put into the unit.

      Mav,

You should consider the Kenwood unit, a number of us have now installed. Includes everything...........including redlight / speed cameras, reverse camera, bluetooth, CD/DVD, etc, at around $2,000,and it fits the Prado dash with the Toyota end caps.

        Hi Rob,

I saw your thread and have read it a few times but it seems that the kenwood is made up of a number of modules and not incorporated in one unit, is that the case?

Can the kenwood do both DVD playback and satnav duties at the same time?

Yes I agree, the cheapest I have seen it is at Ryda:

          http://www.ryda.com.au/Pioneer-AVIC-HD3 ... vichd3.htm

Yes apparantly the unit does a good job of ripping them automatically off normal CD however it does not let you load up MP3's that you have already.

Again no Ozi support but the Roadrover is definitely not a goer due to size.

            Mav,

The only separate part is the GPS unit (which sits under my drivers seat) everything else is self contained. YES it can do all functions at once. This is one of the main treasons I bought it. I have 2 screens on the headrests for the kids in the back, and I can play DVD's and output to the rear screens, whilst I watch the GPS output on the front screen.....and use the bluetooth at the same time. Auto engages the reverse camera as well.
            Its a great unit.

Just for everyones info, the GPS component of the Kenwood unit is basically the Garmin GVN 52.

I went to JB today and they gave me a quote of $3000.00 for the Kenwood head unit, nav unit, two headrest monitors colour matched to my interior and installation.

The down side to this is that my steerin wheel controls are made useless. My wife is not a fan of me getting this if the steering wheel controls are negated.

                Mav,
I installed the A2270P from Roadrover today replacing the Toyotas SatNav system in my Grande.

I went to my local Toyota dealer and they showed me a diagram of the 2 types of dash for the Prado. The part number is 55412-60240 for the split panel for climate control cost me $82.00 and the cost of the A2270P $830.00 inc delivery and Route 66 Australian maps.

As I said I have just finished installing it and have not had a good play yet.

                Cheers

Can I ask if your dash is the same as the VX dash in the 07 Sept build date? Will the split facia fit ths VX?

                    Mav,

Not sure if same dash as VX 07 my Prado is a 2003 model one would think they would be the same.

Also trying to get Oziexplorer on apparently it will work on this unit.

                    Cheers

Yes it will Steve, I had asked for this to be setup before shipping and they said no problem just supply the license and they would do it all.

                        Thats great
I was just discussing with Mav, the possibility of getting the dash parts to get it to fit from somewhere.
I would order one straight away, if we can get the dash surrounds to suit

                        What was the install like??

Thats great news Mav that you may have found a solution.

I've headed down a different track, no pun intended!

I found a Fujitsu Sylistic LT C-500 tablet unit on E-Bay for $212. This unit is basically a Celeron 500 with a 8.4 inch touch screen.

Luckly the previous owner had updated the OS to XP & also upgraded the hard Drive from the original 6GB to 60GB.

The unit has a USB port as well inwhich I have plugged in my USB GPS.

I loaded up Oziexplorer & did a test run on the weekend & it works perfectly.

As a bonus, I got the docking station too which allows the unit to connect via a network so updating ozi is very easy as is the transfer of waypoints etc as well.

Now I just have to work out how to mount it on the dash.

                            Cheers

Sounds like you have found your solution too Stormy.

I ordered my new dash panel today and they said it would be ready to pick up tomorrow. They had five of them in their order system, not sure if that is Australia wide or just in Sydney.

They were very interested in what I was planning to do and about the roadrover however they were not particularly up on their Toyota prcing, one guy said he thought the Toyota Satnav was about $1400.00 installed. Yeah right!
