I'm pretty sure that a local Car Radio place here in Wagga have the Toyota Sat-Nav units, but under the original manufacturers brand. From memory they were still around $2500 though, but reduced from $3500! They are also normal double-din size too.

      Brand: Eclipse (Fujitsu-Ten)
      Model: AVN-6000
      Bluetooth: Optional
DVD: Yes (Apparently the equivalent unit in some Toyotas don't play DVD's!
      MP3: Yes
Dual Zone: Yes (GPS front, DVD rear screens)

I ended up going with the Roadrover which I purchased direct from the manufacturer in China.

I looked very hard at the AVIC but after speaking to a few people who had them but had had big problems with them locking up and then dying I decided against forking out the money for it.

                Hi Guys
I,m looking a refurbished PIONEER-AVIC-Z1 they are available on ebay in the states with free shipping & 12 months warranty for $500 US to Australia, I would need to by Aussie maps to use it here, this model is the US version of the HD1 here

Also looking at the New Kenwood DNX7100 from the US, this version is not available here & comes with the GPS unit built in, the head unit is the same as 8039 plus the GPS module, I can get it delivered here with a blue tooth module for about $1100 delivered & Aussie maps an extra $300 from Jonny Appleseeds. $1400 all up

Also available is the New Panasonic CN-NVD905U Strada, similar to the Pioneer HD3 units but only $750US delivered, plus maps

The big question is which one do I buy? the guy selling the Pioneer has 20 & says he will do a big discount for any buys over 2 units

Be careful about buying US pioneer units and importing them to Australia as Pioneer will not help out with Australia maps for their units. There are a few people who have been caught out doing this and regretted it. Do a search on the net for these units and Australian maps.

I have had my Pioneer AVIC-HD3 in for just over a week now and I must say that I am VERY impressed with it.
One thing that is very noticeable is the speed at which the map position update and rotates when turns etc. It would have to be at least twice as fast as the factory Toyota unit.

The CD ripping capability is awesome and the built in database has had most CDs data in it so far (about 30 rips).

The iPod interface is fast and smooth, the bluetooth handsfree is clear with no echo. It even plays the same ringtone as the phone is selected to through the speakers. Cool!

Can't think of much else but if you wanna know anything about it then please ask cos I reckon I have been through most features.

I'm interested in your experience with the Avic HD3. It looks like a great unit, but the price tag is pretty hefty, so I want to find out what the compromises are before I take a plunge. I've tried asking Pioneer a couple of questions about the GPS database, but they don't seem to want to answer.

Can it be set to give fixed speed / red-light / school zone warnings? Also, do your steering wheel controls work with it?

Unlike the Kenwood unit which uses the Garmin GPS and software which only has a little over 100 cities and towns covered, the Pioneer uses the full Whereis v13 mapping which seems to cover most towns in Australia as is the case with TomTom and several other GPS units. Are you able to confirm if this is infact the case with the Pioneer?

On the plus side for the Kenwood, apparently fixed camera etc. warnings can be downloaded to it from Garmin. It is also setup to communicate with the new radio traffic control system so it can re-route around traffic jams. Pretty fancy. I can't see that the Pioneer has this capability. Have I missed it?

                              Hey Andrew,

Shop around a bit to get a good price. I paid $3200 installed and am waiting for the $200 cashback from Pioneer.

The database is really good from what I have seen so far. Show a lot of country roads and has POI for the areas too.

You can't upload any other data such as red light cameras etc. Although I reckon this will get hacked eventually as things can be uploaded into the unit via a CD. Pictures etc so I would think someone will work out how to do it - but, no, not standard.

My Prado doesn't have the steering wheel controls but the information I have heard says that they do work fine.

It has WhereIs V14 installed. not 13

                              Hope that helps
