    Pioneer F900BT

Apparently a new unit from Pioneer coming soon ...F900BT looks the goods thats for sure...no price yet and due out June 08... Has a much better interface than the HD3. I imagine it will be a fairly pricey unit though... On the other side of the coin... the HD3's will come down in price...

you can have the rear view camera on as you are driving by navigating thru the Map menu. This is a standard feature of the AVIC-HD3.
Touch 'Map' in the navigation section, select 'View Mode', from there touch 'rear view'. That allows the rear camera to display in 2/3 of the screen while driving, while the map of your suriundings is indicated on the other 1/3 of the screen.

      cheers

      Cheers Mardo,
I did try that but the left side of the screen is just blank, I believe it depends on the actual camera thats installed to be able to use this function, it needs an additional output or something.
      Pomp,
Did this situation get sorted out for you? Was a switch installed?

Well after a 2 month wait they rang me today saying the parts are now in stock.
The switch on the rear camera will be especially handy, it annoys me when Im reversing back onto my trailer and then have to move forward again to re-align and the bloody camera switches off!
Should be sorted early next week, although I've been promised that many times Im past caring

A bit of a story this, first off the company that fitted the AVIC via the Toyota garage (moto one, they do all the rust proof stuff etc as well) they told me I had to pay a bill of $535

Well I was told when I signed for the car that these bits and pieces would be free of charge, so obviously I went to the garage to complain (of course the sales person that promised these things had since left) so when the 'new' after sales guy told me I had too pay well then Im afraid I completey lost the plot, but after my shouting, swearing and ranting in the middle of the showroom the manager relented and I got the extras for free (as promised).

So I now have my Ipod connection and the steering wheel controls fitted.
No joy on the rear camera switch as yet, the auto electrician was pretty honest and just said he didnt know quite how to connect it up as its still quite a new system. He says its a standard fitting procedure in the USA and he is awaiting the info from Pioneer Australia. No seperate wires need to be run its purely a connection issue but he didnt want to take the risk without proper documentation from Pioneer.

I've also been given a map upgrade, but I've decided to wait till November when the new update is released (saving myself $350 or so)

Sounds like you had one hell of an ordeal, the reason why you probably can't get the reverse camera to work is that it is quite often powered by the reversing light. This means that the lights need to be on in order for the camera to be on, therefore, it is not sending an image to the screen. I suggest you talk to the installer to find out this info if you haven't already got it fixed.

                  Re: Pioneer AVIC-HD3

                  Hey guys

Just in case you were after a Gracenote update for your AVIC, there is finally another one:

                  http://www.pioneer.com.au/Products/Arch ... 20HD3.aspx

After mucking around with burning it so the AVIC could read it, ended up using the free Nero 9 that worked (four CDs later):

                  http://www.nero.com/ena/downloads-nero9-free.php

                  Regards
                  Shane

PS Thanks Rob, the AVIC hasn't missed a beat since the firmware update.
