  • Toyota sat nav issue

I Have a 2007 Grande and went to update the mapping DVD I ejected the old disc and inserted the new one but it just keeps spitting it back out tried to put the old one back in and same thing keeps spitting it back out, still had other functions but no gps away on holidays so a bit peeved about this.

I pulled the whole unit out yesterday as thought it may be possible to get the disc to stay in if I was able to put it in place with the unit apart but did not do this as was to much to get to the bottom DVD area so I put it back in the car now I get nothing at all it just asks for the DVD which it wont accept no other functions work at all, I suppose the question is now do I take it to Toyota or just get a new Dig options unit.

If I go with the Dig Options can it connect to the existing camera , gps aerial , blue tooth and aux input ?

I believe the original disk has the GPS system files on it whereas the update discs only contain new maps. I have an 09 Kakadu which has the DVD reader under the passenger seat and had to have a few goes at swapping the disc before it worked. There wasn't much time allowed between ejecting the old disc and inserting the new, from memory only 10 seconds.

I can't help with the Digi Options unit but there is a thread on here about them which should answer your questions.

I think it is an an issue with the dvd mech as I have tried to put the new disc V16 and the old one v13 back in probably 100 times and it takes it in spits it half way back out twice then spits it out, not sure whether its worth taking it somewhere for repair or who would repair it around Toowoomba or Brisbane / Gold coast.

I priced a new unit at auto barn and jb Hi-Fi and the want from $2000 and said I cant use the original reverse camera etc and will need to replace it all as well, and a new Toyota unit is around $4700.

I did read the Dig options thread all 82 pages seems like a good option just not sure about replacing a $4000 unit with a $400 one

I've got a OEM drive that you try if you wish from out of my 2004 Grande (was mounted under the drivers seat) . If it works and you want it make me an offer

I don't think that one would work with mine Craig as mine has the drive in the head unit where yours would have a cassette player and no good swapping the head unit as would lose Bluetooth and aux input

I see you went to the Dig options unit do you prefer it over the oem one ?

Have a look at the VMS unit as it has now come down to $2000 it much better the the Toyota unit . The Toyota unit is absolute crap in my opinion and my recent trip to qld backs that up in spades . Even if you do spend the dollars to get it fixed or replaced its still junk when it's actually working and you still have to spend $300 a time fora disc upgrade . I doubt whether ill be fixing mine .

For me, going for the DigOptions units was an easy option for a number of reasons. My Grande is an '04 model, so I had no reverse camera or Blue Tooth, which I now have and the Mrs Loves. The Navigation system was clunky and very out-dated and I did not like the idea of having the disc stacker and Nav disc drive on the floor pan where is was subject to water damage in the case of an unexpected bogging/water crossing. On & Offroad mapping included in the DigOptions and reading through the DigOptions thread, I was impressed by the level of support that was being provided by Matt. Yes the display isnt the greatest as the glare affects the screen, but it's certainly great value for the $500. Since purchasing, I have installed a forward facing Cam to the Aux input which has already saved me and I have received 1 x free s/w update by DigOptions. I'm also looking at the DigOptions TPMS add on that also interfaces with the Head Unit, which looks pretty good. But if you've got the money to spend on a quality unit then yeh, have a look at the VMS unit or even Alpine & Pioneer. But if you're on a budget, (IMO) DigOptions or the like would be the go...

x2. Mine was not broken but I wanted an upgrade as I required Bluetooth and a reverse camera. I've been through all of this recently and ended up buying a unit from these guys:
                      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/140750851...84.m1497.l2648

Have not got it yet so cannot comment on performance ATM. Go a VMS if u want 4wd/offroad maps, I already had a off road navigator so was happy settling for something far far less. Seemed a sensible option for me!! All the big brands..pioneer, alpine et al will be at least 1.5k+ but have limited/no off road mapping....good luck researching.

well I went to TJM very honest and helpful had a VMS unit there and was happy to sell it to me , but said it was the last one he had and wont be getting another and did not recommend it, said I would be better off with a polaris for good off road mapping or go with the Dig options one for the price.

I will be interested in how yours goes Macaroon when you get it.

I am still at a loss which way to go I called a couple of dealers from the polaris sight but they were all installers only and no one actually stocked the unit.

I have emailed Dig options some questions and tried to call but have had no response as yet

I'll try and post feedback when/but:
                          1. I finally get round to installing it all inc R. Camera.
                          2. Dont' use Prado yet much 4 long trips so it won't be extensive re: GPS coverage and playing music through Aux (iphone etc) etc

Really I was futureproofing. I could have spent less but also could have spent a lot more but possibly got the same product and the seller is based in Oz and anwers any questions!! I've heard the phrase "(big brand) comes out of one door and ours out of the other door" a few times..makes me chuckle. Although private sellers can possibly pimp theirs to set them apart 4 a selling point.

I'd have gone this way too if not 4 my navigator. You really have to buy with your needs & budget!! I just could not justify >1K+. There is a thread re Autotunez units (Oz proz) that gets an excellent wrap of members but only supports 1 camera??!! Keep up the reading!!!?

                              Hi David,

not sure if your still looking for a unit or not, but i've been considering one of these pioneer units to replace our factory gps. the seller has a few different one's.
