  • Differnce between tracks and routes?

when it comes to GPS whats the difference between tracks and routes?

    I'm looking at this one

and in it's specs it says it's good for:
    Routes: 20
Track log: 10,000 points, 10 saved tracks

can anyone tell me the differnce?

    Cheers

Dean, this is the response I got over on Overlander...

    http://forums.overlander.com.au/view...=routes+tracks

Also, my very old Garmin GPS38 has only 30 waypoints per route which is quite limiting but to make it worse has no track feature.

When I upgrade I think it will be the number of waypoints in a route I'll be looking for, also the track ability but more importantly it's a mapping facility that I think I would use most often.
    Cheers, Leon
There's no such thing as a wrong turn... it's just the scenic route!

i want the unit so i know where the hell i am, and 2ndly, so i can map where i have been, and the put it on the PC, so tracks seems to be the way to go, as routes don't seem all that great. is that right? hahaha.

        My limited understanding is...

routes are good for where you want to go...

tracks are good for where you have been...

maps are ... oh, that's where I am  Now, how do I get out of here

That's about the nuts of it. if you're programming in where you want to go, that's a route, if your downloading the log of where you've been, then it's called a track log.

at least that's the way it's been in the Garmin & Navman's i've had.
