  • GPS mapping update

    Hi All,
I have a 2011 VX and thinking of updating the GPS Mapping to current.I don't know if its worth doing it? Is the current facelift Prado do have the the actual speed of the vehicle/speed cameras,2D/3D? anyone know where is the SD Card located? I don't have the CD that sits under the passenger side.( I will check again to make sure). And how much for an update?

    Thanks
    Ceasar

Ceasar, I have a MY 14 2013 VX. I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly, but here goes. My sat nav system does not show the vehicle speed (or the gazetted road speed for that matter) or the "safety" (speed) cameras whilst navigation is in use. There is a SD card slot plugin on the side of the head system with othes app buttons. I am not sure how this is updated, although I suspect it maybe a disk purchased from a stealership. If you call your local Toyo dealer spare parts dept they will give you a price. I would suspect it would be anywhere from $600-$800.

Don't look at me, I'm Gen X, we are stuck in the middle of all this....

Don't own a newer Prado myself but i am running igo primo on my headunit with Whereis Maps which get updated 2 x a year.

This link is for updating your toyoto with whereis maps but only available updates up to 2010, also the $300 price tag is a bit rich anyway https://www.whereismaps.com/cars/toyota/prado.2011.html

Had a thought that you might be able to copy another disk with the updated whereis maps included, Pretty sure it would run the same way as the micro sd card on mine but just reading data off the disk.

Or even update software to newer version for that matter.... Just need to find out what software its running

Thanks Chimma and Zutta, that answer my questions, reason is if I have to update mapping for that price might as well buy a new GPS with everything in it for a fraction of a price. I went to Toyota (local) once to buy ABS sensor cable ,and told me 380 to 400 dollars ( try to compare my local toyo and forum members experience that's why I'm asking) . So even the newer Prado didn't have those features.
          Thanks guys.

I have v20 running fine on mine but I have the DVD reader under the passenger seat version. There are no special features like 3D or safety camera alerts sadly, I believe that's a limitation of the firmware on the factory GPS.

I will check tomorrow. I don't have problem on mine its just Toyota is way behind on GPS's I think. Instead I bought this gadget that tells me my actual speed, school zones, black spots, speed cameras, and street/road speed limits.
