  • A suitable GPS Receiver that will work on both Android and Apple Devices??

    Guys.....

I'm hoping someone can advise me in regards to Tablets/iPads and GPS's..... I currently have a non-cellular(ie: no internal GPS) 32GB Apple iPad and I'm wanting to find a GPS device that I can utilise with my iPad and turn it into a mapping system for when we going touring. I know about the Bad-Elf gps unit which would suit, but it's apple specific and I was hoping to find one that can be used for both Android/Apple devices..... Does anyone have any knowledge/ideas in this area that might help us out?

Hi rob, I'm in the same boat and have been investigating which one to buy. ( 32 Gb IPad Air wifi only)
The one that seems to get a lot of recommendations on Australian 4wd sites is the Dual XGPS 150 or 160 models.
The 160 is supposed to work with Apple & Android.
This is the one I'm going to get unless you get it first & tell me it's no good.
    Check out the Ozpilot website.
2012 Crystal Pearl Prado Altitude 150 Diesel Auto. Toyota mats and rear rubber mat. Toyo Open Country AT2's 265 65 R17 LT. OEM nudge bar. dual battery set up with Optima D34, rear power points front and rear Anderson plugs. Lightforce LED combi light bar. Kingsley side steps. Outback Ideas recovery points. Dr Air Pro 150 ltr air compressor. ARB 60 ltr fridge. GME 3550s UHF radio. Hema HX1.

Also, check this link out in regards to the one you're looking at: Garmin GLO Review

      Related Units

Bluetooth® GPS receivers were once popular items, but today there are very few choices available. The GLO is similar in appearance to Garmin’s discontinued GPS10xBluetooth® device.
The Dual Electronics XGPS150A is arguably the main competition for the GLO, but it lacks GLONASS capability and provides positions updates at a slower rate. Personally, I prefer the black, professional look of the GLO to the bright red “sporty” looking XGPS105A. This is completely a matter of personal style of course.
The Qstarz GPSXT10hz was the only other currently shipping device I could find. It also offers position updates 10 times per second (10hz) like the GLO, but does not have GLONASS.

        Hey rob....
The 150 model has been superseded by the 160 sky pro which has the 10 Hz updates and Glonass.
It is the receiver recommended by Oziexplorer.
It also has an App that is free and optional to use to get GPS status and change settings on the device.
don't like the commments about being hard to register the Garmin in the review.
At this stage, still leaning towards the 160 sky pro

No worries.... I just found out that Garmin device can handle up to 4 devices at the time which is what I'm looking for. Registering it not a big deal and the issues that guy had might be rectified now or just do what he did...
