  • Hema 3.0 on Android/Apple

    Hey guys

Are many of you running Hema on your tablets?
Have any of you updated your app to run 3.0? What do you think of 3.0?

I upgraded the app on my phone to 3.0 and got the pro subscription(Telstra credit FTW....if telstra credit didnt buy apps I probably wouldn't have gone pro.). I havn't updated my tablet yet. I wasn't a fan of it in the beginning but when I compare the detail of areas around waypoints from phone to tablet I'm starting to like the new version. But! No more downloading of satellite images is a bother.

The map detail was horrible until I read somewhere that you have to throw in one of their Here maps into the layers WITH the Hema Explorer map to enable full zoom!
Now I've figured that out, the map detail is good and I'm considering doing the update on my tablet. Looking back on a couple of waypoints from a trip south a couple of weeks ago, and comparing them to my phone and tablet, there is certainly more detail on 3.0, some of the tracks we were on werent shown on my tablet, it was just blank screen, but now I look at 3.0 on my phone it actually shows what we were on as 4wd tracks. It still bothers me the I can't download the satellite maps for an area.

Is the trade off for more maps, more detail and the better scale 1:9000, worth the trade off for no satellite images? The 1:9000 scale seems a bit over the top but I'm sure in some situations it might come in handy.
The more I think about it the more I think the update is worth doing, maybe not so much for the 1:9000 scale but for the 4wd tracks.

Oh yeah my password to get into the cloud isn't working! If I type it in, it wont work. On my computer only if Chrome puts it in for me its fine. Have put in a support ticket

What you guys think update? dont update? pro worth it?

          thanks, I read that thread

I only just now managed to get cloud sync working on my phone. I had to un install and re install version 3.0.2. All good now.

The more I compare the hema base map on 3.0.2 to the basemap on my tablet v2, the new version is easily better, more detail, more zoom before going to other map layers.

I can see why people are annoyed that there is a subscription for the pro version, but if your telstra prepaid you can use your telstra credit to pay for a years subscription with no real money out of your pocket.
Even without the pro version the 3.0.2 basemap is better than v2.

I managed to find another Navigation app that allows satellite imagery download. Turns out its almost identical to Hema 2.0....almost exactly! But you have to buy the app and get a pro subscription to be able to download sat images. The good part is if you just talk to these people they often offer free purchase of the app or give out year subscriptions! I purchased the app and asked about their satellite downloading and they gave me a code for a years subscription!
Its not an australian app though, so its not as useful as Hema

So then I went ahead and updated Hema on my tablet to 3.0, and it turns out my previously downloaded maps are still there including the satellite stuff, its a wifi only tablet, and if I turn off wifi and clear the map cache, I can still view the satellite imagery offline! I guess that might disappear in another update.

no doesn't use Hema maps....BUT I talked to their support and they said if you can find an online source of maps you can load that into their app to use, I dont know if hema could be put into the app that way.

found the email...you can import a tms url to use with their app.

I asked Locus Map about offline satellite images and they said:

it uses be correct. Locus offered downloading MapQuest satellite maps. Unfortunately this maps are no longer available in Locus app due to terms of use. Locus does not offer downloading satellite maps at this moment. We can offer satellite maps only for Austria, Finland, Czech rep, and France at this moment.
Looks like it isn't meant to work anymore.
