Hi everyone...I'm looking to replace my current Prado VX standard stereo with an all in one system...there seems to be hundreds of no name brands on sale at ebay for less than $500 with all the bells and whistles, but I have no idea whether these are any good, or whether I should save my coins and buy a brand name system. Does anyone have any experience with the cheapies? Is it a good way to go? Thanks...and I love this site (just found it!)

There is heaps of threads which cover your topic and these GPS units already.
It is probably best to use the search button or manually find them in the electrical/ accessories area.
We probably dont really need a new thread started on it.
PLease also place your location in your profile.

Re: Cheap GPS/DVD Units
i too have seen these, seller is in Oz. I think it was about the $600 mark. I asked the seller about the unit and what mapping system it uses and i was told it uses 'route 66' ... from which after reading threads on this forum i have hesitation in buying.. I wanted to upgrade my VX to have a rear parking camera, but this would be in additon to the unit being sold, and also for Sat Nav..
Instead i got good quality rear parking sensons fitted, and updated my mobile phone to one that has GPS on it -which works a treat and can use anywhere. This leaves cash over to upgrade the speakers for the std system.
cheers, Rod

I got one off McBain and I absolutely love it. Easy install (well as easy as this sort of job can be) and it works a treat. Took Route66 off and put on iGo8 -heaps heaps better. Did a one week road trip and the GPS was invaluable in working out how to get where. I just finished the reversing camera last weekend.
I'd PM McBain and see if he has any stock left of his 7" TFT double DIN units.
