Micro SD Card with Adapter

Hi Guys,

I know this is probably a stupid question but has anyone tried to use a MicroSD card with adapter in a GPS unit instead of a normal SD Card. I can see there are 8Gb Micro SD cards.

Thought this might get around some of the issues with limited availability of 4Gb SD cards and no larger SD cards.

Would be intrested to see if anyone as tried this.

in theory it shouldn't be a prob though (the adaptor) my camera has a CF slot but i'm running a Sony Memorystick through a CF adaptor with no probs.

edit: no affiliation, if anything they sell things retail cheaper than i can by them wholesale!

I was thinking that maybe with an MicroSD to SD adapter, that a Micro SDHC card could be used in one of these systems that is limited to purely SD cards such as the Polaris and some of these cheap fleabay GPS units. After posting I think it's probably all folly since a SDHC card is still a SDHC card regardless of full size or micro.

Would still be interested to know if it works, but I doubt it. I only have a 256Mb micro SD and nothing to really test it in, but I'm considering a 4.3inch cheap a$$ fleabay unit from Brisbane. Would like to be able to store all of my 8Gb+ of maps on one card but a few cards is OK. I have seen the prices of some name brand 4Gb SD cards upto about $90. No way I would be a few of these at that price when the SDHC cards can be snatched for around the $20 mark.

Oh and by the way McBain, I could not find any 4Gb SD cards on the UMart site, only SDHC cards in both full and micro sizes. Unfortunately, from peoples posts, these don't work in the units. Real bugger that :cry:

I tried to run a MicrosSD with adapter in the Roadrover but no joy it just refused to see the card.

Yeah, thought that might be the case.

I wonder if there is an SD adapter that allows a USB memory stick to be plugged in... :wink:

SD cards are readily available in larger sizes? :?

Also SDHC etc. Most devices are backwards compatible with SD HC cards.

My cheap GPS came to me with a 1gb micro SD inserted into a SD adaptor and it worked ok. I have since changed it to a 2gb SD card and it still works so I dont have issues swapping between the two.

Hi Guys,
I have just finished setting up a mates elcheapo $220 GPS it came with a 1GB Micro SD card and adapter, I setup OZiCe etc on a normal 2GB SD card and it also ran OK.
I have not tried any of these elcheapo units with SD cards above 2GB!
