only if they've had a huge rethink of the operating system, the old ones are horrendous

yep. already got it on order. I actually ordered the old model at $650 inc 2 year extended warranty. but hema have stopped supplying the old model (even though the new model ins't out yet). so I had 2 choices, cancel the order for a full refund or pay a bit extra and get the new model.
they couldn't do it for the same price obviously (although I did try for it  ) but I ended up getting it for $890 including a 2 year extended warranty (worth $50). still $150 cheaper than RRP once it's released so im happy, just gotta wait for it to be released.

          Re: Hema Navigator

Mine came up with a fatal error about 4 weeks ago and when I emailed them they said I needed a new SD card which they would send out as it should still be under warrenty.

Well I am still waiting, not sure what to do next as I have sent numerous emails. Can anyone else recommend a good GPS with 4wd tracks on it.

That will be the third unit I've heard of with what appears to be the same problem. Nothing will boot up and the blame is on the SD card.

              Re: Hema Navigator

I spoke to the Hema rep at the Perth 4WD show and he said that the old unit was sourced from a factory in China by VPS and had proved too unreliable so Hema had gone off on their own and sourced a new factory in China for the newer unit. He showed me the new unit, but it was so new it didnt have all the software loaded onto it and only Oziexplorer worked. The windscreen mount has been sourced from Germany, so it should be better than my Navlink mount

After using the TPx091 I found a cheap GPS on EBay running IGO8
                http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 3279615019
Loaded SD with Ozi and hema maps and you change Nav path in System folder, 4.8 inch screen will be great when I take this unit in aircraft to do fire bombing co-ordination, CFA have given me 2 maps at 1:25000 which cover Victoria. This unit came with latest IGO8 (8.3.2.96045)which I've transferred to my car unit. new feature shows lane signs at major freeway exits.

                  Re: Hema Navigator

                  Hi All

I just brought a HEMA 5 for work (well, work brought it ) and I think I'm going to echo other posts here. First impressions aren't really good given the cost of the unit....... and route 66 sure does suck compared to my Nuvi 1390.

Anyway, I am waiting on a set of 50K maps to run on ozi and will give it a good try on a trip I have to do in two weeks time. Once I get a good feel for what it can do I'll post a bit of a review (or my considered opinion of the unit any way).

My primary interest in the unit is for remote area navigation in vehicles and some rudimentary "track"recording in Ozi from both vehicle and aircraft. We will see how we go.

                  cheers

                    Anyone else using the Hema?
Am thinking about picking one up on the weekend, but wanted to here a bit more feedback first to make up my mind
What is the go with Ozi explorer, do you just download newer versions and upload to the gps as they come out? Is it free once you buy the unit?

                    Cheers

                      Re: Hema Navigator

I just got the HEMA Navigator 5 and as far as I know I'm the first to have one 'up above' to have it. I don't have a US version of the Route 66 software, but have spent the past 3 days following Rt. 66 from Santa Monica, California and left it at Joplin, Missouri to pick up out daughter in Independance, MO using the OZI Explorer.

I find it incredibly easy to use and have started up maps, tracking, made simple adjustments and even set up the Bluetooth all without reading the instruction booklet.

I can't wait to load up topo maps of Green Ridge State Forest (Maryland) for a weekend track next week.

I will let you know how it goes and if I am able to load US maps onto it Rt 66.

                      Cheer,

What... gadgets come with an instruction booklet!!! That an easy way out IMO. Better to 'work it out' your own way.

My Magellan 1500 has been performing tremendously for 2 years now and so far has been 100% accurate and as detailed as Natmap printed maps.

Bought a Hema, took it home to check it out for a week, and quickly got my money back. Also bought a Magellan Xover a few years ago. Cost me $1200.00 What a piece of junk. Nothing on it works, and the distibuter ,Next Destination, refuse to fix it. I bought a Tom Tom for around town, and its absolutely brilliant, and only cost $260.00.
Is there a GPS around that has bush tracks as well?

The solution is usually to get OziExplorer running on a GPS unit and use various maps that can be purchased or download from Geosciences Australia.
