  • Pioneer AVIC HD3 Firmware Update

My unit has been working really well but just lately has locked up a few times and all I get is the Pioneer start up screen.
I have contacted Pioneer and this problem is prevalent in hotter climates (I suppose living in Darwin qualifies for this) but also with the weather heating up down South this may happen to others.
There is a firmware update that apparently fixes this issue. I spoke to Pioneer today who are posting out the CD today to me. I'd suggest that anyone with this type of unit does the same.
I am happy to send the CD on after it is done if anyone would like it. It is only a firmware update so there are no copyright issues.

Re: Pioneer AVIC HD3 Firmware Update

    Just an update.

I received the update CD via Express Post 2 days after I called (which is pretty quick in Darwin!)

Now the bad news.....I ran the update, without turning anything off, and the unit rebooted. It tells me the update failed and goes in to a constant reboot/error/reboot/error cycle. Bloody great!

I rang Pioneer and they said that I should leave it off for two days and see if it comes good. Yeah right.
The fix is to have a master reset done which can explained over the phone, but they wouldn't explain to me - it has to be a dealer. There are no dealers in Darwin for Nav units so it has to be some other Pioneer dealer that does other Pioneer products.

Kinda of annoying that you pay over $3000 and can't use it because it needs a reset that they won't tell you how to do!

    Ok.....rant over

      Final update.

I was told to unplug the unit for 1-2 days and let the power drain out and the flash memory a chance to reset.
Sounded like a bit of a long shot to me but was assured that was the fix. Apparently there is no master reset process.

I did this and plugged it back in. The HDD updated the flash memory and hey presto, it worked!

It surprised me but it works great now. Still a long winded way of going about things.

Thanks Richo. Still running trouble free? Have the same problem, usually at the worst time, so will get in contact with Pioneer to get the update.

Re: Pioneer AVIC HD3 Firmware Update

Mines been working fine so I'll think I'll leave the update for now Incedently can this firmware update be downloaded (or is this much to radical).

Have any of you guys had the latest map upgrade? It was due out last November and my dealer promised I'd have it, but as yet I've heard nothing (I should chase it up I know but I've been a bit lazy)

Hey Richo just wondering did the firmware upgrade fix the lower case issue we had previously?

No - still the same issue. In fact I can't anything changed at all in the user interface.
On the Upgrade disc - I received a whereis letter in the mail today funnily enough suggesting that I consider the new V15 upgrade.

Don't really need it in Darwin - there's not that many streets!
