  • Delivery of a Spot from US

I just recieved delivery of a Spot personal messenger from the US in three days. I have had it delivered to my door for $203 AU. In Oz they can be from $240 to $399. http://software-maps.com/index-spot-usa.htm.
I checked again and they have just gone up $20 Go figure!

That is great value for money Martin. My local camping store sells 'em for $300.

3-days! They must have tossed it over the pond .

I am very interested in this product as an option to hiring a satellite phone for a trip in august. We only need some form of contact for emergencies. Look forward to seeing how it works. Did you subscribe to the optional Google Maps tracking ?

        Hoppy,

Lots of info on Spot if you do a search. I am very pleased with mine, and yes. I subscribe to the mapping service. Have a look at some of Mav's postings.

          Hoppy,
I didn't subscribe to the extra service but there are services avaiable that keep the plts that are available on the standard service. I have subscribe free to this but as yet have not been able to get it to work for me. Others, however, find that it works well. Link... http://jasonjonas.org/spot/about.jsp. I will persevere. The standard package works well although it annoys those on you 'I'm Ok' list while you are sorting out the system! My suggestion is to only put yourself on the system first and then when it all seems to work, put on the other contacts. I am very happy.

Im off overseas in a couple of weeks and wouldn't mind buying a Spot 2 from these guys. Any issues with buying one from overseas and subscribing from Australia (US exchange rate is awesome)?

My SPOT was purchased and registered in the US. Now that it's in Australia, I simply re-registered it.

Mine came from the US, just registered it on the US web site when I recieved it, no problems at all,

Daughter is using it this week, completing a 5 day hike through the Brindabellas to Wee Jasper for her Gold Duke of Edd. Kind of nice to be able to see where she is. And for her to have the ability to summon help should something go wrong.

I just had a look at this. That's very reassuring Rob. I'll have to get one to keep track of my daughter

Re: Delivery of a Spot from US

I bought one (Spot-2) from ebay seller acme17 in April when the Aussie stock was still not available. (ran out of time to wait)

Cost was US$170 including shipping. Unit works perfect.
