The only difficulty I had was fitting the thing back into the dash - I must have had it in and out 20 times before it fitted without standing out on one side or the top. Talk about a squeeze for all those cables!

My missus is so impressed she said I must get the set-top box option, but there's no way I'm going back into that dash in the near future, or at least until the blood pressure drops to below 300/150.

Hi Dave,
What's happening with the iPod (or not)? Try controlling from the iPod. Are you getting your songs on the screen? The problem with all iPod supported products is they like some iPods and all. It's bloddy hard coming up with a complete list! Maybe I should ask all those that are successfully running their iPod for their generation of iPod and the model.

Guys

Part way through the install; these look to be great units especially with the ability to run ozi at this price point. Any one have recommendations on how to mount the business end of the ipod connector? Do people leave it hanging loose inside the glovebox or is there a "better" way of mounting it in the vehicle. Any suggestions appreciated.

Here's my take on installing the GPS Antenna:

I decided that I had enough room to drill a hole in the demist duct and pull the wire through from there:

Used a 12mm forstner bit and pushed very gently until it popped through the first layer, then Inserted the GPS tail wire through the demist grill from above (it will go down the hole immediately to the left of centre with a bit of a fiddle) and fished it out the hole I cut:

P1030063-small.JPG[/attachment:r9g7yx1x]

Then Used duct tape the close the hole and seal the duct:

P1030064-small.JPG[/attachment:r9g7yx1x]

Finished. I used some more duct tape to tape the excess to the duct so that it (hopefully) does not rattle:

Finished the install last night.

Many thanks for the helpful suggestions in this thread, especially for the ID of various wires, saved a lot of time.

A couple of notes not yet mentioned:

1) If you have difficulty replacing the radio section in the dash and you have the right-angle AV connector, grab a torch and look under the radio. On mine, this connector was being jammed between the radio and the steel tube running inside across the dash. I took the connector off and trimmed the flexi section away with a stanley knife and it installed easy after that.

2) The reverse wire inside the passenger kickpanel. On my '08 manual, these wires can easily be seen behind the loom. There are two wires red with black stripe, a thin one and a thick one entering a relay there in the lower section. Both read 12v with the car in reverse, so the thin one is probably the switch wire and the thick one the switched 12v for the reversing lights (and the one to connect to).

3) On the rear door, the install was easy once the rear panel is off. Those clips are a pain, I wonder if there is a toyota tool for them?

4) Instead of drilling a 12mm hole between the numberplate lights, I just made a 4mm notch in the ridge between the upper and lower sections of the number plate holder. There is plenty of room for the wire between the sections.

5) I took the opportunity of completely sealing up the back door vapor barrier with racer tape before I put the rear panel back on. There was a lot of dust in there and behind the panel compared to the rest of the car. Hopefully we will have a little less dust ingress now.

Hope that helps!

Yes...no dramas...you just change the navigation pathway in the setup menu... or you can choose which program to start manually everytime.
Hmmm... where is this setting, I haven't seen it yet.

Also, how do you run a program manually?

It would be good if we could build a screen for it that gave you the choice between igo8 and ozi when you selected navi.

Hi all,

A couple of questions from an '03 Grande owner:

1. Any Grande owners done the install? Especially 03 and 04 owners who don't have Aux input into their factory satnav headunit?

2. The previous owner installed a reverse camera already (Eclipse brand). Can I use this existing camera and plug it straight into the TP09X1? I have not opened the dash as it looks far more complicated than other Toyota headunits I have pulled out before (Camrys and Taragos) so I'm not sure what the plug is. However, from what I have read, the reverse camera loom has already been pre-loomed through the car and it is a matter of disconnecting and reconnecting cables?

3. I have an iPod Nano 3rd gen. On my Tarago which has a 3.5mm aux in, I simply connect a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable from the iPod headphone jack to the aux in port. I don't mind navigating on the iPod itself if the iPod interface on the TP09X1 is not compatible with mine. I read that there is an Aux In port which is used for the digital TV receiver. Is this the alternative to plug in the iPod, which means that I won't be able to plug in a TV antenna in the future?

4. Can someone provide photos of the back of the unit as supplied out of the box? I'm curious as to what the connectors look like.

5. Is this a multi-disc unit?

Thanks
Andrew

It's from the navigation/options screen.... the default setting is to auto start Igo8 so you have to catch the screen at start up before Igo starts. From the settings you can set the software pathway. There is a check box for auto starting the software or not.

If you can't find it I'll take some screen shots for you.

Any PAL/NTCS/SECAM output is OK and if it has RCA plugs it will plug straight in.

You would need to use some sort of RCA splitter/switch to select between the Ipod and DTV box if you go this route.

Can someone provide photos of the back of the unit as supplied out of the box? I'm curious as to what the connectors look like.
The loom has a plug to directly plug into the factory Toyota loom for power/speakers etc. The only wires that need to be delt with are the handbrake, steering wheel control and reverse light.
All the other inputs and outputs are RCA plugs.

I just bought one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWNX:IT

http://www.rlfenterprises.com.au/rtv2d108.html

The seller said that buyers had told him they are cool for digital TV.

I have not received mine yet.

Yes but this is for an Ipod Touch or Classic... he has an Ipod Nano and it may not be compatable with it...

I just came across that on ebay. Looks like there are plenty of choices there.

Is it better mounted on the front or rear windscreen.

I don't mind one of those magnetic bases. If only I knew what constitutes a good antenna. 5dBi, 28dBi, or ...

The antenna that comes with the DTV box is magnetic and I have it on the roof at the front.

I live miles from the source of the Digital TV and only get reception when I get on top of a hill.

The antenna I bought is "active" meaning that it's amplified and hooks into the 12v system for power.

Digital signals are mostly horizontal and so is this antenna.

Therefore I am hoping that it will be better than the supplied one.

Hi Matt,

Its refreshing to see a supplier test their goods extensively with other aftermarket products and report back to their customers. Ultimately I would think that it is the aftersales service (and a good product) that make this unit so popular amongst PP'ers.

I received my digital tv tuner today… as with the head unit the digital box looks to be of good build quality, however; Once again the user manual leaves a little to be desired with a typically poor Chinese/English translation that seem to come with most consumer electronics these days.

As you know, the TP09X1 is dual zone so can only perform 2 functions. As to what two functions, we are double checking now. It is possible that you could have music up front and DVD at the back. We are currently testing Headrest LCDs that run their own DVD in one of the headrests, the other LCD is a slave unit.
