Did you get the problem sorted out Mick ? I hope it's a easy fix, they seem like nice people. It's not easy getting in contact with them for some reason, hopefully they are ok and will get you sorted out quick.

I'm looking at getting a system from them also, but communications worries me a lil.

No, I'm taking it out this weekend and getting it in the post back to Matt for repair or replacement.

All going smoothly I'll get one of his higher spec models for the Prado and stick the TP09X1 in the wifes Corolla (assuming she approves  )

Sounds a bit like what i said in a previous post about the wires at the rear comming into contact with the cross bar and working loose after a while at the back of the unit , i have not had a problem yet, when i installed i cut around the cable and bent it over the top of the other one next to it to keep them up so they would be up out of the way when pushing back into its position, it seems to have done the trick as i have not had any power up problems.I dont want to put the polaris back in unless i have too, main reason is screen readability. Mick, when mine died all it needed was a drive over rough roads and it started up again.

          Just needed a good shakeup.

Unit is out, I did bench test it once it was out but it ran no better and a bit of a shake made no difference. I was tempted to open the unit and check for a loose internal connection or dry joint but it has a warranty security sticker around it Matt may not have honoured the warranty!

I couldn't be bothered putting the factory unit back in so I'm stuck with a hole in the dash until I get it back.

While the info on this system implied TomTom would run...

            It ships with IGO8

Have exhausted some time and efforts and yet to be able to get TOMTOM installed and up and running..

I have tomtom on my pda and the latest maps and just tend to like the way it works etc.. If any one knows what the trick is on teh cTP09X1, to get TomTom to work I would love to know..

I have cab installers etc but the TP09X1does not let me run it... Exe files yes but not many other command files...

What is the actual OS of teh TP09X1 unit ?

Thanks in advance for feedback / comments..

Is this the version you are trying to run on the TP09X1? Is your PDA running Windows, Palm or Symbian OS? Maybe the issue lies with your Tom Tom not being a Windows CE compatible version?

Just heading out the door when I ran into the postman dropping off my returned unit. Just had a quick look in the box and it looks as if Matt has supplied a brand new unit to replace mine.

So there you go, no issues with warranty... better than trying to get someone in China to fix it.

                Good work Matt.

I then reinserted the sd card into the head unit making sure that it was installed the correct way (actually upside down). Still no change.....Nav program hangs on start. Then performed a reset and still the same. I have no idea what could be wrong. I have sent Digioptions an email. Hopefully it is something simple.

                  Hi HIggsee & all,

My unit has just begun doing exactly the same thing as Higgsee reports - When I press the GPS button the main menu it hangs and fails to start the GPS application. It does this with either my IGO8 SD card and my OziExplorer SD card. When I press the GPS button from the menu the screen normally goes a faint grey colour and does nothing, although sometimes a very faint image of the "GPS Navigator" screen appears and then hangs, some other times the screen will be blue across the entire bottom half. Once after one hard reset, the "GPS Navigator" screen ran with the blue bar extending across the screen only to hang at the end.

Has anyone else experienced this besides Higgsee and myself and if so, is there a fix? I have tried numerous hard resets via the reset button on the bottom right of the unit.

                  Cheers, Shane

                    Shane,

Yes the problem with the GPS was solved by Matt who was very helpful. Matt emailed me with a replacement file for the unit. Once installed via the Micro SD all fired up again and has been working ever since. I would suggest that if you speak with Matt he should be able to forward the file and installation instructions to you. Hope it all goes well.

                    regards,

                    Higgsee.

                    • Re: Dig_Options TP09X1 GPS, Reviews & Information

I installed my replacement unit this afternoon and was surprised to find a new set of user interfaces/skins. To be honest, straight out of the box I didn’t like them as much as the ones on my previous unit, however after playing around for awhile they have grown on me.

The unit also now ships with NavPol street navigation software which I quickly ditched in favour of my personal favourite Igo8.

The new TPO9X1 has some minor changes over the early model.

First thing I noticed was a different plug layout on the rear of the unit which meant I had to re-arrange my wiring somewhat, nothing major just a few new cable ties here and there.

A couple of extra RCA outputs have been added as well as a rear blade fuse (my previous unit was fused inline).

Screen resolution/clarity seems to have improved somewhat however I feel the colours aren’t as vibrant as before however with the change in skins I can’t be sure it’s not just my imagination. A test playing of a DVD proved that the unit has excellent picture quality, much sharper than my previous unit.

This unit seems more responsive/quicker than my earlier model, I’m not sure if this is an improvement or my unit had a suspect processor.

I feel this unit has better audio quality than my previous one so some improvements may have been made in the amplifier area although I’m probably splitting hairs as the factory Toyota speakers let both units down badly.

                      The front facia remains identical.

My photos of the screen don't do the unit justice, it really has a very sharp and clear image. I had to take them without a flash to stop glare but then the shutter speed was a little slow resulting in slightly blury shots.

Good to see its all sorted Mick. I cant say I like the new 'improved' skin. I wonder how easy it is to change out?
Hows the new iPod interface? Had a chance to use it yet?
EDIT: I can see there is no cooling fan on the rear, but is there any on the sides?

No cooling fan, might be worth some thought as to how to do a retro fit with a small PC fan.

No, I'll fire it up tomorrow. It looks a whole lot better than the old one.

It's grown on me, but if I had the choice I'd like it in a blue scheme as before, and I liked the previous radio screen better. Personal choice I guess.
I guess it could be changed, not sure what Matt can offer on this.

Sorry about the delayed reply. I only had a chance today to grab the wife's Ipod and try it. Unfortunately it won't work/connect. Either the new firmware won't support our older 80g Ipod Classic or I knocked the plug out of the back of the unit when installing it.

Couple of other points of interest:

-The back light is now blue (my previous one was green to match the Prado instruments). Not sure if this can be changed (as on some after market units)
                              - Several of the screens no longer have the ability to switch off the screen for night driving (radio screen for one, but the tv and AV do)
                              - On my previous unit, it would stay in dual function mode after being switched off. The new one reverts to single function on start up.

Couple of pictures showing the new back light colour:

Apart from the above mentioned changes/issues the unit has performed flawlessly in everyday use and has not been effected by our recent 40 degree plus hot days, despite the Prado being parked in full sun during my working day.

                                Hi guys
Am looking into options for GPS, reverse camera and iPod connectivity, and have only just found this thread.
Things look mostly positive about this unit, but had a couple of queries.

Does anyone know if there has been an update to the iPod compatibility? I have a current version iPod Touch so am wondering if this will work without the extra cable referred to on about page 3.

Also, I have a Dec 06 build VX - does anyone know if the factory cabling for the reverse camera to the rear door of the vehicle, referred to in Mat's first post of this thread, exists on builds around this time or earlier? It wasnt an option at purchase so am wondering if that was only included in later builds.
Or where would I go looking to check if its there? Somewhere within the rear door perhaps?
I have Black Widows drawers in the back so its a real pain to pull out panels in the cargo area so any reduction in this part would be a major bonus!
People who have installed cameras on earlier models dont seem to have mentioned if they had to run cabling or had the factory plugs to hook into.

Most people that have these seems to be pretty happy so its a tempting purchase and the price, compared to VMS, Polaris, Hema makes it almost do-able. Any ideas of current price on these for PradoPoint members?....

                                thanks
                                Matt
