  • I have the TP09X1 unit and find it hard to see the screen during the day. What have others used to counter this problem?? I was wondering if I should make up a little roof from an old ice-cream container that covers over the top or something like that. What have others used?

    • Thanks for the thread and valuable information therein

Sorry to barge in on a prado site but I was directed to this thread from LCOOL and have spent many an hour reading it. So convinced was I, that I purchased the AVN unit and it is sitting on the kitchen table waiting for delivery of my 2011 VDJ76GXL cruiser. Should have the car by the end of this week. I did a fair amount of research and was going to get a VMS 7000 series until I found dig_options. For the price and what I want out of it cant go wrong. $3000 VMS vs $500 for dig_options.

Better upgrade for stereo, playing the odd DVD and off road mapping is what I am interested in and sounds like this unit performs admirably. VMS is most likely made of the same components, as the dig_options from the same factories.

A lot people rubbish goods made in China, much like they did with Japanese goods many years ago. Now look at the quality of merchandise coming from there! Chinese manufacturers want to stay in business and grow their business like any other business would in the west and are continually improving the customer experience with input from people like Matt and Donna who on sell the goods to their customers. This thread is nearly three years old and other than a few teething problems most people are happy with the quality and performance of the products.

The spare $2500 buys a lot of bling for the new cruiser!!

Looking forward to the website so this information will be more accessable than trolling through 71 pages. Although I did cut and copy most of the tech info.

      Regards

I found same problem you can only have Sat/Nav and one other running, overcame this by buying 7 inch Sat/nav off ebay that has Video input. and fixing to windscreen when towing, cost $109 or $139 with wireless camera. Also found reversing cameras have too wide an angle 160 deg so I purchased 90 deg rear vision unit, much better.

Matt does have an installer in Brisbane who did a great job for me. He's mobile so can either come to your place of work or residence. get the number off Matt as I have misplaced his card. Very happy with his work. He installed the unit, reverse camera and DVD headrests for me.

            • Hi Gumboot,

They are pretty easy to install and there's some great threads showing how to remove the fascia. It does depend on how confident you are but the head unit takes about 30mins to install (actually much less if you know what you are doing so I've allowed abit of time for a newby). The reverse camera is the slowest and hardest part. If you are also installing a reverse camera at the same time, and you're not confident with removing door & floor trims etc, then a professional installer might be the go.

                Thanks for your responses.
I ordered the unit today from Matt and I spoke to his installer called Ron up here. He seems pretty knowledgeable and hopefully he does a neat and tidy job. I am going to get him to do it next week.
I had a look at the new Eclipse AVN827x ( released next week as an upgrade to the AVN726x) . With a camera and fitting, a retail store up here wanted $3100. I cannot see the huge price diference to tell you the truth.
                Cheers

As this seems to be the dig-options forum I just want to tell you about the install in my 76 Landcruiser , I installed it today within half and hour, only the unit so far, no gps usb or ipod leads as I was short of time and just wanted to check the install procedure. All I had to do was drill two new holes in the Toyota bracket and it went in very easily with the supplied wiring harness. Would be the easiest thing I have installed on a new car. Have to add that I am not worrying about the reverse camera at this time. The unit looks like it came with the car, and so far having turned it on, worked a treat and the sound is way better that the original unit. Check the pics,

                  Cheers

                    • My TP09X1 has developed a small problem - the reverse camera has stopped working. When I select reverse, the screen changes as usual, but no image comes up - I just get a blue screen.

Haven't looked yet, but I'm guessing this means the wire connection has come adrift or been broken somewhere. Its wired in using the factory wire. My #1 suspicion is the connectors at the rear of the unit itself, they were pretty tight against the bar at the back. Am I right in remembering that there was a change to the rear connector that may help this situation? If so, I'll try and get one from Matt before I pull it all out.

Any other suggestions about what else could be wrong?

                      Michael

                      • I have installed my unit from DIG_Options and all is working fine including the reverse camera. Unlike others in this thread I had no existing wiring for the reverse camera (2004 Prado Grande). The cable included for the reverse camera is pretty easy to run and also comes with a return wire off the reverse lights to hook into the head unit, telling it to switch to reverse camera when reverse is selected. The wiring harness included is spot on, every thing connects without issue. The screen is difficult to see in sunlight which is a little annoying, but for the price I will get over it.

I have now started to play with the more advanced features (loving the battery monitor when camping and listening to the stereo). The one pain point that I have to date is that the pointer alignment seems to be off when trying to navigate the on screen menus and popup keyboard. Has anyone else experienced this? If so is there a config for it or something?

happy to help others doing the install...

                        • Fixed the pointer alignment for oziExplorer point issue above, there was a config setup in the options menu. Does anyone have instructions on how to upgrade from the demo version of oziExplorer CE installed when purchased?

                          • Hi All
Need some help, purchased avn11tp from matt, and have installed. All is very easy and everything works great, now to the camera- I can't find any wiring diagrams for this model only it's predecessor, can anybody point me in the right direction.
This unit comes with 3 x parts to the camera, camera and a cable with 2 fittings, one with black and red wire, one long lead with loose red wire hanging out each end, and the one which fits to unit with red wire hanging out. What does each of the red wires connect to.

                            cheers Hatto

                            • Hi
I have an AVN11TP now installed.
The unit does NOT charge my Iphone 3GS when I plug it in. " says charging not supported"
We trested a iPhone 4 and it did charge it, so shows my cable is OK.
Has anyone got this unit to charge an iPhone 3GS ???
                              Cheers
