    ok guys,
as i said before installed the unit to friend's landcruiser everything works
fantastic. But as stated on earlier post i can not get set set top box to tune
to channels. The video cable is plugged to the white aux plug next to the red camera
plug. The red & white video cables are plugged in the auxin in the main unit
in the main harnes. We have the brake cable to earth so we can watch dvd/tv
    all the time.
I tried everything but it will not tune in the channels.I reset the box back to factory
default put in band 7 under manual search went through the scan process bu not good.
It comes up with message DATABASE EMPTY.I also sisconnected the power from the box
did autosearch then manual search then area search all kind of serches but still
no channels DATABASE EMPTY. If the connections are wrong the i would not be able to
see the menu and hear the clicking sound when it does the cahnnel search.I also tried driving around
20 km radius BUT STILL DATABASE EMPTY.
IS there something i am missing, is there a special way of entering the bandwith or maube
the antenna or the box is faulty.
    Any sugestions some one.......

It needs to be as high as you can get it.

Digital signals are 10m from the ground, or so I have read.

This really does look and sound like a great unit / option to have. I am curious how well it does when driving off the beaten track for awhile....has anyone had any extended off road trips? Vibration etc?

The base GPS map for the city does it provide turn by turn? Is it accurate?

Mines about to cross the Simpson so I'll let you know

As mentioned earlier it uses Igo8 navigation software which is generally considered to be one of the best street navigation softwares. It has Test to speech, turn by turn voice guidence and has the latest Sensis R15 maps.

I've been using it almost daily for the last few weeks around Adelaide and the maps are very good, much better than my previous R14 maps which where lacking in several areas.

BTW any WindowsCE 5 software could be used if you have a different preference....ie; Destinator etc.

Is it something special or would a normal USB cardreader work?

I've caved in and ordered one of these. The combination of features is pretty hard to beat.

Just a few questions about the TP09X1, does it go through a start up , ie, do not operate while driving self check, does the gps have lag, eg shows car on the road where you were 3seconds ago, is the screen readable in bright sunlight , does it show the speed limit of the road you are on, and are updates going to be availablle , the good features i like are the no tilt screen the volume control and off road maps via sd card, thanks Randy

No... just a brief warm up time (Shows Toyota screen) a few seconds... if on radio it fires up instantly.

does the gps have lag, eg shows car on the road where you were 3seconds ago
                      No

is the screen readable in bright sunlight
We've had a few sunny days in Adelaide as of late and I haven't had any issues so far.... the display is fully adjustable (colour/brightness)

does it show the speed limit of the road you are on,
Yes, both visual and speech warning of fixed cameras and speed zones. The warnings are adjustable by % over the limit before you are warned.

and are updates going to be availablle
Runs latest Sensis R15 maps... these are available for update every year or so...

I'll be grabbing one of these when I get back from New Zealand. Will take the crappy 4.3" wonder with me for 6 months and then upgrade to an In Dash upon return. Told a friend about this last week and within minutes had him hooked. You really can't beat the features and price combo.

Does anyone know if the Polaris unit has any additional features this unit does not? I believe the main difference between them is that the Polaris unit (now) has the ability to select different icons for multiple navigation programs (ie an Icon for iGo and another for OziExplorer)

I don't think you can get TV with the Polaris.

And only other comparison that I am aware of is, Polaris is double the price.

                            This unit sounds very convincing.

For those that have it installed:

does it 'beep' with every press of the button? On a cheap Chinese one I had (luckily it was a warranty job so I received a full refund), every press of the buttons on the screen amplified the beep through the speakers! Very loud and very annoying!!

Has anyone had any functions they weren't too impressed with, ie bluetooth not working all the time, steering controls not working 100%, touch screen not accurate? I have read through the whole topic but just want to highlight any other potential problems.
How bad is the ipod interface? I mainly use this driving locally, does anyone have a pic of this interface?
Does it automatically switch to night/day mode?

Also, what is the sound quality of the unit/amplifier as apposed to the standard stereo (GXL)?
Does anybody know whether these are compatible with digital radio which is supposedly being phased in, or what would be in order to get it working with digital radio?

Does it automatically switch to night/day mode?
Igo8 has a day and night screen which switches over based on time settings (Clock)

The screen it self can be switched off but leave the function you are running Ie; screen off but radio still playing.

The volume of the beeps it adjustable....

I'll leave it to someone else to get a screen shot of the Ipod interface... I'm on baby duty tonight and can't go outside to play atm.

What a great thread, I'm just about to order mine, thanks to all who have contributed to make the decision easier. Can you please tell me if the micro card reader (silver face plate as shown on photos) comes with the unit or is this an extra.
I'm assuming the main micro card reader is in the head unit and you would upgrade the card to a 2gb or 4gb and store all the maps on this, can someone please confirm if this is correct. :P
