Re: All Things Related To Digital Radio
And therein lies the problem - it's all good if you live in the big smoke.
Drive 30 odd klicks out of Kal and the FM reception dies thanks to the window fitted aerial. We don't have digital TV, not until 2013 - remind me again why I bought a big digital tele last year?
We don't even get 3G with the mobile phone.
I think I will wait.Dave

Re: All Things Related To Digital Radio
There are some things that here in Aus we really miss out on. I looked into satellite radio after I used a hire car with 'Sirius' in the US - brilliant system with lots of niche stations displaying the title of each song as it played - apparently over here there were no plans to roll it out as there was not the market for it (numbers, money, demand...) I got great reception at the top of Tioga pass in Yosemite (fairly remote) and I think the units were pretty cheap considering they put them in most hire cars.
I also used to enjoy RDS in Europe about 15-20 years ago - tells you what station you're listening to and pauses your CD (configurable) when a local traffic update is broadcast so you don't have to listen to the radio in case you miss a traffic report - all on a pretty bog standard analogue FM radio - doesn't take much investment by the radio station to broadcast the requisite information along with the FM signal but just hasn't happened here.
I would like a full-on internet radio in the car so I can listen to stations from all around the world but I'm not holding my breath...
I bought an FM transmitter for playing music on my car stereo (Honda Accord) from my GPS unit (which has a media player) but it's hopeless - you spend ages getting a clearish FM slot, sync the devices to that frequency - drive down the road and suddenly your signal degrades as some community station starts to cut in over your music...and this process then repeats itself again as you search for the next available FM frequency - has put me off trying to transmit anything over FM. I would upgrade the car stereo but guess what...oh yes...that's right...it's a fully proprietary system that you can't replace with a third party unit (to cut back on radio theft I guess). There's minimal partnership between car makers and devices makers and for every new development you get left out in the cold (particularly due to connectivty issues) unless you want some mega-expensive innovative 3rd party developed system.'08 Prado Grande D4D Auto - Flinders Red, Piranha Dual Battery, GME 3440

The foolproof option is the headphone jack connected to the aux input of the head-unit. I realise the aux-input is not in all models, but is by far the most reliable and suits every audio device.
