Re: running shonkymaps on garmin Nuvi 1390
You need to have MapSource (from Garmin that comes free with it) installed. Then you upload shonky maps to it. Then you need to unlock your SD card in your GPS by registering the GPS with Garmin and then you can upload shonky maps to your GPS. I have a Garmin 60CSx (https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?...ue#gpsmap60csx) and it's excellent. I have both the 2008 mapset as well as shonky maps on it and it's great. I can turn of and off maps (but that is a bit fiddly), it's water proof and has an electronic compass and a barometric altimeter. The only thing is that the screen is quite small, but it's good as we unhook it and take it for walks with us (not that we would get lost but it estimates how far the car is from say the back of the zoo) - amazing how much more energy the kids have navigating us back when they are tired.Originally posted by samoas the title suggests how do i run shonkymaps, i have downloaded it, do i also have downloaded garmin map installer and basecamp and go a sd card as well, so how do i get it cranking. cheers samo
Our last GPS was a Magellan that we paid $1600 for including a mapset in 2005 and it never worked (randomly turned off, lost maps, couldn't see card so wouldn't start up etc). Numerous phonecall, email and faxes to Magellan went unaswered over the years. It's now a back seat toy for the girls. Would never buy one again...Late 2008 GXL D4D 6sp man, white, Sovereign bull bar, 2.5t tow bar, Head light protectors, Bonnet protector, Cargo mat, Front side window weathershields, Roof rack & bars, Dual bateries

Re: running shonkymaps on garmin Nuvi 1390
Has there been an update at all to ShonkyMaps? He released these about 4 or more years ago based on the Geoscience Australia (GA) free data but I think there has been an update to GA so these maps will not show the increased suburbs in the major cities nor any major road changes since about 2006.Nick
