  • IGO8 and downloading POI

I purchased recently a TPO9X1 and had 4tshorty help me put on IGO8 which I have been impressed with. I have been using tomtom for many years now and am missing a few things.
    1) Fixed speed and red light cameras warnings. Has someone found a way to download these as they are very handy when I go into a city.
    2) Downloading Point of Interest (POI). With tomtom you are able to download things like all Big4 caravan parks around Australia.

Originally I was looking at putting tomtom on the TPO9X1, however after using IGO8, if I am able to sort out these couple of things I might stick with it

Has anyone put tomtom onto one of these units.

Not being directly related to the top9x1, I thought a new post was needed however if the Mods think it is better under the old one please feel free to move

    Re: IGO8 and downloading POI

Probably your best bet is here: http://www.gpsmodding.com/

There is a dedicated IGO8 section.

      Maybe try this site too.
      http://www.naviextras.com
I had an Aldi gps running iGO8 after I downloaded an upgrade, there were thousands of new POI. You need to download and install the "Toolbox" from ths site first.
Probably will only work with a legal copy of iGo8 though.

        Re: IGO8 and downloading POI

I downloaded and thought put in the correct place on the sd card from
http://www.poiplaza.com/index.php?p=dc&c=50 There are actually lots of them on there.
Make sure you back up your SD card before you do anything like this, I didn't and now IGo8 won't load. Back to see 4tshorty again. Grrrrrrrr

          Re: IGO8 and downloading POI

Mate, I tried those POI's from poiplaza and they just locked up my IGO8. Once I deleted them from Ithe SD card it worked again fine. However they do work for Google Earth (.kml file). Maybe I'm downloading the wrong ones, but it definitely says IGO8. The camp sites file I tried looked excellent, damn it. Could be my IGO8 is out of date as well.

            Re: IGO8 and downloading POI

            g'day Snowy
I ended up getting them to work from that site. The instructions said to make a new folder called user data and put them in there. You are correct that did lock IGO8 up.
I then tried to put them in the POI file under content and it works fine, they must file themselves under the correct place. You can search under POI and it finds them. I also downloaded the spead/redlight camera's file but haven't tested them yet.
Just make sure you are smarter than me and back up the working file so you have somewhere to go when it all goes wrong.

              Re: IGO8 and downloading POI

Hi Scott, I read the instructions no worries, however, the "sdcard/igo8/content/userdata/poi" folder already existed. So I put it in there and she locks up as soon as it starts. I moved the file to the "sdcard/igor/content/poi" folder and she runs okay, but I can't access the data. Just tried everything again same result. At least I can look at those potential campsites via Google Earth. Cheers

Edit: Ha, I got it to work, I put a folder called data in there too and it's reading it.

Thanks very much for the help though Scott. Cheers

                  Re: IGO8 and downloading POI

I put it in the already existing "content/userdata" folder along with the "poi" and "route" folders. I got it all to work fine, the campsite POI files will come in handy I'm sure. That's a great site you found.
