Re: Check out this new OBD II product from Garmin

Hey James -this is a great idea and I'd love more info. I always use my little netbook with a bluetooth GPS as a backup for the TP09X1 and it would be useful (not to mention a lot of fun) having this running as well. Please post a little more info about what you are using and how you are progressing with this.
08 Grey VX D4D, Black King steelies, Mickey Thompson MTZ, CalOffRoad modded Bilstein - Skyjacker suspension, front and rear ARB lockers, Cibie lights, Black Widow drawers and barrier, 75Ah Thumper, TPX091 GPS, GME TX3420 and more dints and scratches than it should have.

Re: Check out this new OBD II product from Garmin

Is anyone SURE that this bit of gear will produce fuel economy for diesel cars?

Less than two years ago I did a lot of net surfing including questions to several suppliers/producers of engine reporting tools (based on OBD communications) and posts on boards that had sections specialising in OBD equipment and the only one that would produce fuel economy (ie litres per hundred kilometres) was the Scangauge.

        Possibly OK for Petrol however.

Latest Autobarn Easter cataloge advertises these for $199. If these are the same units as overseas it may be cheaper to import yourself.

Re: Check out this new OBD II product from Garmin

                        Ok Here is my review,

Finally got one of these things set up today.Set up is very easy, just plug it in and start engine, turn on the gps, select the Ecoroute setup and its done.
I have a Garmin 1690 GPS unit connected to it.
It has similar functionality to the ScanguageII, but you cannot do any custom guage programming. I don't think thats any great loss having used the Scanguage until now. The main drawback is the cost to setup compared to the scanguage. It looks great, much better to look at than the scanguage, and clear easy to navigate screens. Garmin also have a web site called "Garmin Connect" which allows you to upload your trip data a view it on google earth (see Below) with all the trip Info, ave speed, distance, elevation, time, with graphs of speed and elevation, you can even play back the trip on the site.
The GPS provides all of the trip statistics, fuel consumption, distance, cost of the trip, CO2 emissions, mileage reports for individual trips, average fuel economy.
Overall thumbs up, except for the total cost to setup. Nice toy!!

                        Follow up after test drive,
Its a pain to switch from navigation screen to the guage screen, as it requires several button pushes, I have emailed Garmin to ask if this could be changed in a GPS unit software update?)
You can have navigation while in the guage screen but it is only audio / voice directions. I guess you don't need to be looking at the guages all the time.

                        Options 2

Guage 1 (any of the guages can be changed to one of the options above, just push the guage on screen, then select from the options)

Is there such a thing as an OBDII double adapter, so the Scanguage and this thing could be run at the same time????????

                        UPDATE
It seems there is such a thing!
