  • Latest Toyota SD card - map update is now discontinued.

I was able to purchase second hand Toyota GPS device with sd card (used for 3 days since brand new at bargain price under $100) seller took out headunit from his brand new car, and I confirmed it. lol. the head unit was manufactured 2021.December and car manufactured in Jan 2022 registered 2022 april. it came with geniune sd card AU2927 and 2020 car i have came with AU2927. I did get confirmation that this is the last version of map and they have stopped updating map for Toyoya IGO primo (my way) - last update 2019Q4. there will be no more update. - NNG stopped making updates for Toyota Australia/NZ unit - end of story rrp $349 sd card with always same map 2020 even after 2 years later. If someone is selling after market sd cards for toyota 2021 or later, it is non official version and chances are not gonna work at all. can be checked at official nng site.

The unit comes with dba radio and all other toyota functions l, side camera, front reverse, maintenace records so on.
    - these units are now obsolete with non updatable map. I was able to obtain linux file for map nng from head unit (Toyota gps uses linux system 2.7) , maybe crackable, so can be used with any sdcard and map version (something like igo navigation) but would be time wasting. would require linux update batch files so on. and 2012 linux os does not support android/car play and cpu will be too slow for new OS updates. There will be no updates for carplay... mirrorlink 1.2 can be installed bottom necks.

it means, adding an extra computer units (if want to use all Toyota existing features) on existing head unit or replace with descent aftermarket ones.

btw extension module is something like this - installation https://youtu.be/ZFCmL3cKmYA - usa version and cheap crappy chinese version is not gonna work due to different harness. Decent one should start from 30,000 yen ($300) include all the harness, if harman system, will cost more obviously. then this will enable newer version of map plus apple carplay and android auto. basically extra computer unit with cpu, memory and new OS system and enhaced audiio system like harman kardon. I will post updates once part number is found from Japan. Toyota does make this as well e.g. rav4 will come with panasonic system with harman, subaru system with fujistu ten like prado. and newer units with pioneer version. if using 7inch~8inch geniune unit with surrounding camera like kluger. will be useful and much better than replacing with crappy non-branded head units from ebay.

Not sure where your getting your information from but I think you are being led astray.

My map was updated in December 2021 with a 2022 map and it is definitely a later map than the Q4 2019.

new infotainment system uses different map. igo next generation still updatable, where as igo primo 2.4 discontinued 2021q2 by nng. if 2021q4 for primo my way exists is the part number of sd cars AU2929? 86271-0E179? something like that? coz last manufactured for legacy unit was 2021 from 2012-2014, 2015-2021

It sounds like you were able to purchase a second-hand Toyota GPS device at a bargain price, but unfortunately, the device's maps are no longer being updated, so you'll be stuck with the 2020 map version. While it's possible to obtain a Linux file for the map, cracking it and using it with a different SD card would require significant time and effort and may not be worth it.

It's worth noting that aftermarket GPS devices and head units are available that may offer more features and up-to-date maps, but replacing the existing unit may require additional hardware and installation costs. You may also need to consider compatibility with your vehicle's existing systems and whether any additional features, like side cameras and maintenance records, will still work with the new unit.

Ultimately, it's up to you to decide whether the cost and effort of upgrading to a newer GPS system or head unit are worth it, or if you're comfortable sticking with the existing system and outdated maps.

Like everyone else's my 2019 Kakadu has a very average screen / satnav / entertainment system so I cast around about a year ago for options to improve the system. I looked at new branded units (Alpine etc) and also the Android based replacement units, but I wanted to keep the car as stock as possible. In the end I settled for an adaptor box from Kremersino which provides both wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay. The unit costs not much more than a map update from Toyota.

Kremersino provide a very good installation video and instructions, and proved to have great aftersales technical support when I needed it. The biggest challenge with this unit is that Kremersino provide no operating instructions so you have to work it out for yourself from YouTube videos and trial and error. But after setting it all up it is absolutely brilliant.

You can flip back and forth between the original car system and the adaptor box by long pressing the home button. I use Android Auto all of the time with the Waze app, which gives real time traffic, actual speed over ground and speed limits, etc, etc. All other apps off your phone are available on screen, Whats App, Messenger, SMS, Google, etc, and Google assistant of course. The Waze maps are much clearer on screen than the Toyota maps and the Kremersino unit makes the screen look sharper overall although up to Ipad standard. There is no map or screen lag.

All in all a brilliant way to bring your Prado into the 21st century. I have no connection to Kremersino except as a customer.
