Having some trouble converting maps through Img2ozf. Can open the maps fine in oziexplorer but when i try to convert them i get this error for each map "the dlls to load ECW files were not found or could not be loaded"
Did a quick search on google and came up with a link to oziexplorer's site to optional extras then ECW Image Loading Support Files. It tells me to unzip a folder into "the windows folder", which windows folder i dont know. Any suggestions cheers lucas

The files go into the OziExplorer root folder. Should also have the OzeExp.exe file. I assume that img2ozf is also located in this directory as well. If not c opy into both but I thought Ozi already had them.

They can also be located directly into the windows directory (eg C:\Windows). The advantage there is they can be access globally.

hey Schaffer if there ever is a Prado Point award of excellence my vote would go to you, nearly every topic i look at you are the man with the answers or at least suggestions. sadly it didnt work, said it already existed. Have been able to convert others maps in the past but never the natmaps even the ones i had downloaded. I had always thought i downloaded them wrong that is why i bought them on cd.
One thing that might have something to do with it is when the maps come up in the Img2Ozf program the column's titled Mem Size, Width and Height are all zero. As when i load other maps there sizes come up.

How big are the files then? I do recall there is a limitation on what can be converted.

Here is a link to the Austyralian Map data page on Ozi:
        http://www.oziexplorer3.com/eng/aussie.html

There is some detail on use in OziCE and conversion:
OziExplorerCE - Version 1.12.3 or later - can load the NATMAP's without conversion to the special OziExplorerCE format. The (.map) file and the (.ecw) file for the map are copied to the storage card.
        • The Mosaic map is too big to use in OziExplorerCE (it is 3GBytes in size). [/*:m:2w6xxxfr]
        • The Mosaic map is too big to convert to the special OziExplorerCE format. [/*:m:2w6xxxfr]
        • Sections of the Mosaic map can be cut out using the "Export Current View" option in the Natmap Viewer software. Click here for details on how to do this. [/*:m:2w6xxxfr]

If you are trying to do the Mosaics then it is probably failing because they are too hig.

Yeah i copied each map that i thought i would use by doing the "export current view" and then saved it as a ecw. Then imported into oziexplorer where i can view it no problems. The maps are only 4 KB each and there are 42 of them.

There should be two files for each real map. One is the .map file which is just the map boundary extents. Normally this is recatangular but there is a tool that allows you to define odd shapes. The second file is the digital raster image stored in what ever format. This might be the .ecw file, .jpg, .ozfx3, etc... The .map file is only 4kb but the other file is much larger. The .map files are just a text format and can be viewed in notepad. The following is an example of one of my .map files. This happens to be for a .ECW raster image:
              Code:

Make sure both files are in the same folder when you go to convert them otherwise you may have issues. That is not completely true as the .map file may point to another location for the reaster source but generally they coexists in the same folder.

Re: "the dlls to load ECW files were not found or could not be l

                Nick,

Whilst on the subject as I'm in simlar situation as luke.

Once the files have been all converted to ozi3 format - to run on ozice version do we need to keep both file formats ?

Currently I have the following files:

                zone49_mga.map

                zone_49.ozfx3

To me once converted into ozfx3 format the map variety is redundant when using ce version

                Cheers

OziCE and Ozi both use the same files to read a map. Using either the ECW or OZFX3 raster format (or any other format for that matter) will require a map file on both versions. If you have converted then you do not require both the ECW and OZFX3 and the two the map files. You only require the converted OZFX3 and the corropsonding .map file. IMG2OZF will usually name the .map file with _ozf in the file name following the original name to help identify and to allow the existance of both old and new in the same directory.
