  • Evilbay In Dash GPS units

Hi guys, i have a 95 series & was looking to fit a Double Din GPS/Radio unit.
-Has anyone tried any of these cheapy units off Ebay?

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Double-DIN-7-Inc ... ccessories

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWAX:IT

-Was just wondering if anyone knows if any of them are half decent & worth a try?

I do realise they wont give you everything a high end unit will.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Regards, Jay.

I haven't got any experience with the ebay units you mentioned.

I did though install one of the TPX091 units from DigOptions mentioned in another
thread in the GPS Forum. Whilst most of the thread is on a unit designed for the
120 series Prado, Matt does have a version that suits a standard double din slot.
(Same functionality but slightly different button layout). I installed it in my 70 series
(standard double din slot) so it should fit in a 95 series fine. Worth contacting him
and asking a few questions anyhow. His service has been excellent with me.

Re: Evilbay In Dash GPS units

I don't have one of these units but the specs seem ok for the GPS....

I have a preference for the second one.....

The first would have an issue with the protrusion on the right of screen block the edge of the screen & possibly blocking GPS on screen details....

These specs I believe are the latest ones you can get...

      full 7in screen
800x480 much better than 480x272. Even worse is 480x234 which has hardy any 'skins' being developed for it & it is really blocky...
      Sirf3 chipset
128MB GPS RAM is also good & above average. Normally 64MB will suffice but 128MB will mean it won't get out of date as soon. The extra memory will mean it should run smoother when speaking street names as directions...
Windows CE5.0 is also OK. Windows CE 4.2 is too old hat.

      & it runs IGO....

adjustable screen angle since on the 90 series the double din is low on the dash....

Things I don't like.....limited to shortened "DOS 8.3" file names for files.....just makes it harder to find the song/movie you want to play.

      Cheers

Re: Evilbay In Dash GPS units

Hi & Thank you guys enormously.
I was leam=ning toward the 2nd unit as well, if only for aesthetics due to my limited knowledge on these types of units.
I am a mechanic by trade, but this stuff is all foreign to me, so i really appreciate any feedback.

I just had a look at the digoptions unit below & it looks ok too. Looks OE & would prob look like it was meant to be there.

I am considering the Dig_Options model myself but in considering the price I was wondering if this one is any good?

Re: Evilbay In Dash GPS units

            Guys,

There are a couple of options. Have a look at the thread I started on the A-sure unit in this (GPS Chat) area. It's a standard toyota double din fit. You can e-mail the company a picture of your dashboard and they will tell you what they have that will fit. I had a good experience dealing with them.

The other option a lot of people seem to be happy with is the DIG Options Unit, which also has it's own thread in here.

            Rich.

              Thanks Rich.
Just a question with the Dig options unit.
Are the standard maps that come with it any good?

              Regards, Jay.
