  • Disc for Sat Navigation

We need to upgrade our Sat. Navigation disc, in the 2003 Grande we have just purchased. We have been quoted $396 for the disc, is there likely to be any variation in price if I keep ring dealers or a cheaper way of upgrading? We have Version 10 and need to upgrade to Version 13.
    Thanks for any suggestions

No they will all be the same, I've spoken to a few different toyota dealers.
It's actually cheaper than I've been quoted. One quoted $400 total, but most are $400+gst here in Perth.!! I saw one sell on eBay for $255 the other week.. Can't believe I didnt bid on it.!!

Something interesting to mention though, I actually enquired about the Sat Nav DVD again today and the guy reckoned there has been some talk of a possibility that Toyota are considering a buy back scheme for the older versions of the DVD when you purchase the new version. He did say the last he heard of it was back in March or sometime though. So who knows.. :?
I reckon its a $400 rort myself..you can buy a paper version for $20-$30. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it costs less to produce and duplicate a DVD than it does to print a UBD.! I guess the other way to look at it is you need at least a UBD for each city in Aust to compare with the amount of info. 13 mapbooks=$400...hmmm  ok ill stop argueing with myself and go buy the damn thing.

Thanks for your replies. Gives me something to think about. They are very overpriced, but its no good having a system that is not up to date.

If it makes you feel any better, the BMW Navigation CD for Australia is also similar money.

The two systems are vastly different though so the map CDs are not interchangeable.

I recently paid $230 with free delivery on Ebay for V13, 'buy it now'.

Although still have pre-existing probs with the unit itself viz no voice guidance.

What does V13 give for the price? More accurate and up-to-date maps? Increased functionality? Quite frankly I find the system in my Grande no more than an expensive toy which happened to come in the package I chose to purchase. Outside of major cities it has limited functionality when campared with third party solutions that allow interface with a PC and therefore an ability to program routes in a more user friendly and complete way. Maybe I have it wrong and there is some way of accessing functions on the Tojo system that I don't know about and which will permit PC interface. Any information will be gratefully recived.

P.S. Has anyone been able to set the system up to guide them via waypoints across the Simpson?

Simply enter your waypoints in advance as POI or favourites and away you go.... No big issue.

I have used the POI trick, but apart from identifing the coordinates for a particular location by screen touch, zooming and marking the position, I can not find any outher way of inputting data. Is it possible to enter, for example, 26 deg 48.7000 min/152 deg 57.8900 min in any other way rather than using the method described? (And this method has severe limitations I might add.) I am used to creating a track/route via OziExplorer and uploading to Garmin from a laptop - an easy process using Natmap raster images as the map referencing tool.

Thanks, TP. Finally found the entry screen  !! About the only screeen I have not inadvertently visited so far  ! Should use the manual for something other than jamming to prevent rattles in metal boxes ops: .....

I live about 1 and 1/2 hours east of Melbourne in a rural (dairy) area and found the difference between V2 and V13 was that there are more roads; although there are still qite a few missing and the accuracy is questionable.
